St George the Martyr is a growing Parish Church. We are looking for an experienced operational leader who can help us build the organisation around that growth and turn vision into practical reality.
This is a senior leadership role at the heart of a vibrant, world-diverse parish in central London. Our congregation has grown, new ministries have taken root, Holy Hour has created a distinctive new space for worship and encounter, and the Borough Food Cooperative has become an increasingly important part of our relationship with the neighbourhood.
There is a great deal of life here. The question for us now is how we develop the people, systems, resources and organisational capacity needed to sustain it.
We are therefore appointing a Director of Operations / Parish Clerk to become the senior lay operational leader of St George the Martyr.
Working closely with the Rector, Churchwardens and PCC, you will take substantial responsibility for the effective day-to-day running and development of the parish. You will help turn our Mission Action Plan and wider ambitions into practical plans, strengthen our finances and governance, lead staff, improve systems, oversee significant projects and ensure that good decisions become reality.
This is not an administrative support role. We are looking for someone who enjoys making organisations work better, can see both the bigger picture and the practical detail, and is comfortable exercising real responsibility and delegated authority.
The role is unusually broad and interesting. Among other things, you will have the opportunity to:
We do not expect you to be an expert in every part of this wide-ranging role, and you do not need to have worked in a church before. More important is a strong track record in operations or organisational leadership, good financial judgement, experience of leading people, the ability to solve problems and improve systems, and the confidence to know when to act, when to delegate and when to seek advice.
St George the Martyr stands in the heart of Borough, on a site where Christians have worshipped for more than nine centuries. Our present church dates from 1736 and carries extraordinary layers of London history, but we are not primarily a heritage project. We are a living, worshipping church, rooted in the progressive Anglican-Catholic tradition, sacramental and inclusive, with the Eucharist at the heart of our life.
Our values are Worship, Purpose, Togetherness and Justice. We want to be a church where people grow in faith, newcomers find belonging, volunteers discover and use their gifts, children and families have a real place among us, and our buildings and resources are used imaginatively in the service of God and our neighbours.
The successful candidate will also hold the historic office of Parish Clerk of St George the Martyr and, subject to the appropriate requirements, may be proposed for membership of the Worshipful Company of Parish Clerks.
You will have a desire to support and develop the Christian mission and ethos of St George the Martyr and commitment to its values of Worship, Purpose, Togetherness and Justice.

We help high-impact nonprofits run brilliantly - now we need someone to do the same for us. You'll own Impact Ops' finances, payroll, contracts and compliance, reporting straight to the founder.
Summary
Impact Ops is looking for a Finance & Operations Manager to join our team. This is a newly created, internal-facing role: rather than working on client portfolios, you’ll own the financial and operational machinery of Impact Ops itself. The salary range for this role is £50,000–£60,000 GBP, depending on experience, with flexibility for exceptional candidates.
We’re looking for a qualified accountant who is genuinely happy to be hands-on, someone who can handle a corporation tax return and a contracting in the same afternoon and see both as worth doing well. If you want breadth, autonomy, and a role where you can see the whole organisation from the inside, we’d love to hear from you. The deadline to apply is 11 October 2026.
About Impact Ops
Impact Ops is an independent organization providing finance and operations support to high-impact nonprofits. Our services include bookkeeping, financial reporting, accounts payable, payroll, recruitment, entity setup, due diligence, and systems implementation. We serve over 50 clients globally, spanning cause areas including global health, animal welfare, AI safety, and climate.
We’re a remote-first team based across the world. We’re looking for motivated, detail-oriented people who care about doing good work in service of organizations trying to do good in the world.
The role
Everything we do for our clients, we also have to do for ourselves — and to date that work has been spread across the founder, the finance team, and external accountants. This role brings it together under one owner.
As Finance & Operations Manager, you’ll run Impact Ops’ own finances, company secretarial obligations, payroll, invoicing, contracting, and HR administration. You’ll report to Joshua Axford (Founder & CEO) and work closely with Eric (Head of Finance), who leads our client-facing finance function.
It’s a broad role with real trust attached. You’ll have visibility into every commercially sensitive part of the business, and you’ll be the person we rely on to keep it running properly.

It would be a bonus if you also have:

Growth & Progression
We’re deliberately hiring above the immediate need. The brief described here is where the role starts, not where we expect it to stay: as Impact Ops scales, we anticipate significant operational leadership responsibility sitting with whoever takes this on, and we’d rather find that person now than replace them later.
We’re looking for someone who wants to grow with the business.
Our benefits include:

We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive team and warmly encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds.

We’re aware that factors like gender, race, and socioeconomic background can affect people’s willingness to apply for roles for which they meet some but not all the suggested attributes. We’d especially like to encourage people from underrepresented backgrounds to express interest.

If you require any adjustments to the application process, such as accessibility accommodations, additional preparation time, or other, please let us know. We’re happy to support your needs and adjust the application process.

About you/ The Role

You will relish an opportunity to establish and lead a new, fast-paced programme from the ground up. You will demonstrate an understanding of REN’s anti-racist purpose, HHU’s community-led approach, and a commitment to addressing structural racism, discrimination and health inequities. You will be equally comfortable working across communities, grassroots and VCSE organisations, stakeholder and partner organisations, multidisciplinary teams and with senior system leaders. About Gambling Harm UK
Gambling Harm UK (GHUK) is a lived-experience-led public health charity working to prevent and reduce gambling harm. Formerly Gambling Education Network, we are independent of the gambling industry and funded by public money, which we take seriously.
We are in Year 1 of a two-year national programme. Our two largest contracts are with the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) and NHS England, and we expect to add further contracts and grants as the charity grows. We are a small team where every role matters, and good financial management directly enables our mission.
The opportunity
This is a new post. You will be the person who keeps our finances accurate, our payments properly controlled, our contracts monitored and our funders confident that public money is being used well. You will report to the CEO, work day to day with the Director of Operations and our Bookkeeper, and have a direct line to the Treasurer and the Chair of our Audit & Risk Committee.
It is a hands-on role with real ownership of the numbers, the contracts and the controls. Two days a week is enough to do it well, and we are flexible about how those days are worked.
What you will do
Financial management and transactions
• Process payments, expenses and payroll runs through Apron, working within our dual-authorisation controls with the bank and our trustee authorisers
• Monitor bank accounts, cash flow and outstanding payments, and reconcile bank and Apron records with the Bookkeeper
• Monitor spend against approved budgets and flag variances and emerging pressures early
• Support preparation of budgets, forecasts and cash-flow projections
• Prepare monthly financial reports for the CEO, Director of Operations, Trustees and committees
• Make sure all spend is authorised in line with delegated authority and our financial policies
Contract and grant management
• Maintain the central register of contracts, grants and key supplier arrangements
• Monitor contract values, spend, milestones, KPIs and renewal dates for OHID, NHS England and future funders
• Prepare and submit funder claims and financial reports accurately and on time
• Flag financial or contractual risks and make sure they are acted on
• Give the CEO and Director of Operations early warning of expiry and renewal dates
Bookkeeping assurance and controls
• Work with the Bookkeeper so every transaction is recorded and coded to the right fund, project or funder
• Monitor and report on restricted funds
• Maintain financial controls, procedures and audit trails, and support the annual independent examination
• Identify control weaknesses or irregularities and escalate them
Procurement and compliance
• Support procurement in line with our policies, including quotations and documentation
• Monitor supplier performance, spend and compliance
• Keep financial and contractual records complete, accurate and secure
• Support compliance with Charity Commission requirements and contribute to the risk register where finance or contract risks arise
What we are looking for
Essential
• Experience of financial administration, bookkeeping, management accounts or a similar finance role
• Experience of monitoring budgets and expenditure
• Good understanding of financial controls and procedures
• Experience of contract, grant or supplier management
• Strong numerical and analytical skills, with a high level of accuracy
• Well organised, able to work independently and manage competing deadlines
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Confident with Microsoft Excel and standard office systems
Desirable
• Experience in a charity or not-for-profit organisation
• Knowledge of charity accounting, restricted funds and funder requirements
• Knowledge of Charity Commission requirements
• Experience of contract monitoring or commissioned services
• Experience of accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks or Sage, and of online payment or expenses platforms such as Apron
• A finance or accountancy qualification, or working towards one
Personal qualities
• Trustworthy, professionally discreet and methodical
• Proactive in spotting problems, risks and opportunities
• Comfortable challenging spend or processes where needed
• Collaborative, and able to work well with the CEO, Director of Operations, Bookkeeper, Trustees, funders and partners
• Committed to value for money and sound stewardship of charitable resources
• Committed to Gambling Harm UK’s values and our public health approach to preventing gambling harm
