Job description

We are looking for an exceptional individual who can work with and motivate volunteers, take a strategic view on issues affecting the Hertfordshire countryside and represent CPRE Hertfordshire at events and through media. The role also involves management of a small staff team, the oversight of our Governance including finances, reporting, budget, fundraising, communications and volunteer management.

This is an exciting time to join CPRE Hertfordshire, as the candidate will be able to build and influence the new long-term strategy and annual plan with our Board of Trustees in advance of 2027.

The Chief Executive is responsible for:

1. Contributing to and driving the implementation of CPRE Hertfordshire’s strategy.

2. Delivering effective and efficient operational performance of the charity including robust contingency arrangements.

3. Providing exceptional leadership and management of the team – both paid staff and volunteers – and further growing our volunteer cadre.

4. Delivering the marketing and communications strategy, including membership acquisition and retention communications, email and social media marketing.

5. Leading and managing local Branch campaigns and projects as agreed by the Board of Trustees. 

6. Devising and overseeing activities to increase recruitment of new CPRE members. 

7. Devising fundraising activities in line with agreed targets in collaboration with the Board of Trustees. 

8. Overseeing our planning activities, including interaction with those in national and local government roles and community groups, and ensuring the charity keeps up to date with current national and local planning policy.

9. Attending regular meetings with national CPRE and other county branches to share knowledge, formulate “one CPRE” policy positions, and participate in national campaigns.

10. Ensure that the annual operating budget is met and continually look for cost savings across all lines of expenditure.

11. Ensuring that all risk factors faced by the charity in undertaking its activities are clearly understood and mitigated as appropriate.

12. Ensuring the charity keeps up to date with appropriate external best practices and maintains compliance with relevant charity commission and other regulations such as HSE and GDPR.

Essential

1. Successful track record of organisational leadership from a not-for-profit sector role.

2. Demonstrable evidence of exceptional people and team leadership and management skills.

3. Good communication skills and knowledge of social media and websites to support delivery of a marketing strategy.

4. Experience presenting to large groups, taking part in media interviews and writing formal reports. 

5. Experience of operational delivery, a completer-finisher.

6. Good financial management and budgeting skills.

7. Full UK driving license with access to own transportation (for occasional meetings and events around the county).

8. A passion for the countryside and protection of the environment.

About you

You will be comfortable working with and prioritising high volumes of work. Confident, polite and professional with excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team, you will have strong planning and organisational skills, with experience of maintaining office and administrative systems

Key Activities

      Donation Processing

• Responsible for the timely recording and processing of all incoming donations (including via our website, bank account, third party platforms and cheques) into the Medair UK CRM (Salesforce).
• Ensure all donors receive gift acknowledgements / thank you letters corresponding to each gift received.
• Maintain up-to-date records of donors, staff and other contacts in the Medair UK database.
• Process and record completed Gift Aid declarations and support in the regular reclaim of Gift Aid.

      Financial Administration

• Inputting of all financial data (income and expenditure) into Quick Books.
• Preparing and following up suppliers invoices for payment.
• Processing expenses claims.
• Managing the banking of income and supporter cheques.
• Support the Head of Operations to implement the month and year end reconciliation process for both Salesforce and Quick Books.

      Facilities & Office Management

• Act as first point of contact for the office and public enquiries, responding to incoming telephone calls and emails.
• Answer basic enquiries about Medair's work and distributing information to supporters and others as required.
• Manage and order office supplies, stationery and equipment.
• Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment, administrating risk assessments, H&S and fire safety procedures.

      Information Technology

• Ensuring the maintenance of the IT system and handling minor in-house IT technical issues for staff and volunteers. 
• Liaising with the Global Support Office IT Helpdesk team to ensure the timely set up of IT for new staff and volunteers – i.e. setting up email addresses, and relevant permissions.
• Ensuring that IT permissions are current, and that these are amended as and when staff and volunteers leave.
• Assisting with continuous improvements in Medair UK’s use of IT.

​    Engagement Support

• Supporting fundraising activities with data segmentation and the production of standard and custom reports in Salesforce
• Supporting the production and automation of email newsletter and appeals via Campaign Monitor
• Setting up new Salesforce campaigns with tailored reports and dashboards to track donations.
• Producing digital surveys and web-forms as required.
• Providing support to Medair’s virtual events, including the technical administration of Zoom and pre and post event attendee administration.           

      HR Administration

• Organising and co-ordinating staff and volunteer inductions ensuring that the induction checklist is completed.
• Supporting the Head of Operations with team training and organisational learning and development opportunities.

Qualifications - DESIRABLE

The Classes and Events Co-ordinator will be responsible for the effective operational management, development and promotion of the Centre’s classes, courses and related events.

About the Role 

The Head of the MultiFaith Centre provides leadership, and operational management to ensure the centre is an inclusive, welcoming, and impactful space for people of all faiths and none.

This is a leadership role with genuine ownership. You will shape long-term direction, safeguard financial sustainability and represent the charity with authority, working closely with Board and Committees.You will oversee the operational delivery of the centre, ensuring plans translate into measurable progress.

Community partnerships are integral to the Multi-Faith Centre, and you will be required to maintain, strengthen and build partnerships across communities. To further the work of the Multi-Faith Centre, you will develop initiatives that promote spiritual wellbeing, interfaith connection and respectful dialogue.

A key element of the role is securing sustainable funding. As Head of the Multi-Faith Centre you will plan, identify and lead on bid writing, grant applications and income generation activities.

The breadth of the role requires energy, sound judgement and disciplined prioritisation. You will move confidently between strategy and execution, diplomacy and decision-making, commercial focus and sector representation. The role is visible and carries real responsibility and offers meaningful and lasting impact. 

Key Responsibilities 

Leadership 

• Provide direction for the Multi-Faith Centre, ensuring alignment with organisational values and priorities. 

• Enable effective governance through strong relationships with the Board, Committees and key stakeholders. 

• Develop and implement annual and longterm business plans.

Operational Management

Partnership and Community Engagement 

• Build strong, trusting relationships with faith leaders, community organisations, university students, staff, and external partners.

• Represent the Multi-Faith Centre in local, regional, and national networks relating to faith, wellbeing, and social impact. 

Funding, Bid Writing and Income Generation 

• Lead on researching, writing, and submitting high quality funding bids to charitable trusts, foundations, and public bodies. 

• Identify new funding opportunities to support strategic initiatives and longterm sustainability. 

• Develop income generating activities aligned with the Multi- Faith Centre’s mission. 

• Monitor grant compliance, reporting, and impact measurement. 

• Build strong relationships with funders and stakeholders, ensuring transparent communication and accountability. 

Financial and Resource Management 

• Strengthen financial sustainability and support the continued success of the Multi- Faith Centre. 

• Drive revenue growth and secure funding opportunities. 

• Manage the Multi-Faith Centre’s budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources. 

• Lead on procurement, contracts, and financial reporting. 

• Ensure excellent stewardship of all grants and donations. 

Person Specification 

Essential Skills and Experience 

• A strategic thinker, you will have strong leadership and people management experience, setting clear direction and maintaining organisational alignment. 

• Financial literacy, including budget planning and monitoring. 

• Demonstrable success in grant writing/bid writing and securing external funding. 

• Strong understanding of multifaith engagement, inclusion, and community cohesion. 

• Excellent communication, relationship building, and stakeholder engagement skills, inspiring trust and partnership working. 

• Report writing and presentation skills to different audience groups, spanning community groups and board level.

• With proven experience of leading programmes or services you will take a collaborative approach within community, faith-based, educational, or wellbeing setting.

We are seeking a motivated and highly organised Fundraising Assistant to join our successful and dynamic Fundraising Team. The Fundraising Assistant will be based in Bewick House in the Development and Partnerships Directorate.

As Fundraising Assistant, you will report to, and work closely with, the Grants and Philanthropy Manager, under the overall leadership of the and Director of Development and Partnerships. This team is tasked with providing, maintaining and growing the income of the Trust.  We have a particularly exciting and challenging period ahead as the Trust in it its centenary year and seeks to source funding for its ambitious strategy “A Wilder Norfolk for All”. With responsibility for the administration of the efforts of the Fundraising Team, you will work closely with colleagues in Nature Conservation, Nature Recovery, the Visitor Centres and PR and Comms, and Engagement.

You will play a pivotal role in the efficient operation of NWT’s fundraising systems and effective recording of the Team’s communications and income details on the Trust’s CRM system.

The role

As Training Programme Lead, you will be responsible for:

• Growth: Owning the programme's growth strategy, including building an institutional offer for think tanks, foundations, funders, and NGOs.

Who you are

You’ll be someone who knows the world of foundations and non-profits well, you’ve probably worked in a few. Ideally, you’ve got a sense of the kinds of skills that these organisations need to develop (and that a communications consultancy could train on). You’ll also be comfortable in a marketing and sales context, able to argue why an organisation should invest in our training platform, and what benefit it will provide to them.

• Commercially minded: You have experience in business development or selling professional services

• A self-starter: You can take a brief and run with it with very little hand-holding

• Facilitation experience: You've run workshops or trainings before and can hold a room.

Job Purpose

The Head of Community Support and Operations is a pivotal new role being introduced to the executive team at Barnsley CVS.  This person will be a key role in the growth and development of the executive team.  You will play an exciting part in the delivery and development of the recently developed 4-year strategy and theory of change. Your role will drive intention and focus on developing our support to the sector in a meaningful way to high standards, whilst ensuring our own internal operations reflect best practice.  You will need a strong knowledge of charity set up, management and governance along with a passion for what the VCSE sector does.  You will be confident in people management and development; have the ability to work inclusively with a wide range of people and backgrounds and the skill to see gaps and opportunities for service development.

You will work closely with the Head of Strategic Partnerships to identify gaps and opportunities to develop our offer of support to the sector whether through direct services, training, brokerage agreements or membership offers.  As you identify these opportunities, you will work collaboratively with the Head of Business Development to explore commercial income options that are also in line with our mission and vision.

Using your excellent people skills, you will act as the first point of contact for HR matters within the charity, overseeing the general management of our online HR system, policies and procedures.  You will work in collaboration with the CEO in any areas that need significant development or management.
