About the role

The Advice Workers will be part of a friendly team, including crisis workers and clinical mental health professionals and function as the first point of access for visitors to the CHWS. Following an initial conversation to ascertain the clients’ needs, the Advice Workers will provide information and advice, as well as signposting and referrals to specialist services, such as the Mental Health Personal Independence Co-ordinators, Social Prescribers and Community Link Workers, in addition to the wider voluntary and statutory services in the borough. Do you want to use your skills to make it possible for people with myeloma to live longer and better lives? We are looking for a Support Group Co-ordinator who will deliver the Myeloma UK Support Group Partnership programme in line with the organisation’s overall strategy.
You will have experience of working with support groups and/or volunteer networks as well as recruiting, training, managing and supervising a diverse range of staff or volunteers. The post holder will need to show clear evidence of relationship building and working with underrepresented groups. A key part of the role is understanding the needs of cancer patients and their families and of health inequalities.
You’ll have excellent relationship building skills and an understanding of the barriers that exist in accessing support. You will need the ability to set priorities, work under pressure with great attention to detail and understand and meet the training and development needs of volunteers. Experience of working with haematology or oncology patients and working with a database would be an advantage but not essential.
About the role
The Support Group Co-ordinator will be the first point of contact within the organisation for all Support Group enquiries. You will coordinate the Support Groups Partnership Programme activity, including developing and promotion of the existing Myeloma Support Groups and coordinate the recruitment, induction and ongoing support of new local groups to the Support Groups Partnership Programme
You will be responsible for working with local groups and other local network partners to increase the reach and impact of Myeloma UK, ensuring that partnered support groups operate in line with Myeloma UK guidelines and ensure that they receive consistent information, training and advice.
The post holder will maintain an awareness and understanding of all legislation that may be relevant to the role and develop, maintain and evaluate a training programme for Support Group Leaders as well as moderate and update the Support Group Leaders’ online hub on a regular basis. This is a new role at High Trees, created because we believe Lambeth’s voluntary and community sector (VCS) is one of the borough’s greatest assets – strong, skilled and rooted in the communities it serves. Place-based organisations like ours play a vital role in supporting individuals, strengthening communities, growing local economies and shaping the policy decisions that affect the people we work with. We want a dedicated Manager who can help make that case, loudly and effectively, both within High Trees and across the wider system.
A key part of this role is our contract to deliver capacity building support to Lambeth’s VCS, commissioned by the local authority and delivered through the Lambeth Hubs Partnership – but this is one strand of a much bigger picture. We want this role to think beyond any single contract, taking a long-term view of what Lambeth’s VCS infrastructure support needs to look like, and leading the development of new approaches, including peer support models and a more circular economy across the sector.
Health and wellbeing is increasingly shaping where funding and investment in our sector flows, and we want Lambeth’s VCS to be ready and well-positioned to respond to this shift. You will play a leading role in this, working with partners including the SEL VCS Alliance to develop shared practice across South East London boroughs, and ensuring our sector’s voice is heard as these opportunities develop.
This role is as much strategic as it is operational – we’re never too far from the ground at High Trees, and you’ll be expected to lead on much of the day-to-day delivery yourself. That means designing and delivering workshops and one-to-one capacity building support, developing resources and toolkits, and running networking events that bring Lambeth’s VCS together. Job purpose
To supervise, coach and develop trainee debt advisers, ensuring they achieve the knowledge, skills and competence required to deliver high-quality debt advice in line with MaPS quality standards and organisational policies. The role is responsible for quality assurance, case supervision, progression reviews, placement support and safeguarding advice quality while helping to build a sustainable pipeline of skilled debt advisers across the Debt Free Advice partnership.
1. Supervise and develop Trainee Debt Advisers
Provide day-to-day line management, mentoring, coaching, technical supervision and pastoral support to Trainee Debt Advisers, enabling them to develop the competence, confidence and professional standards required to achieve accreditation and deliver high-quality debt advice. Provide the level of management expected of colleagues across the organisation and in line with internal policies and procedures.
2. Deliver learning, quality assurance and progression
Support trainees throughout the Debt Free Academy learning and accreditation pathway by delivering technical coaching, soft skills development, reviewing casework, conducting live and recorded interview observations across telephone, video and face-to-face advice, providing constructive feedback, assessing competence against agreed quality standards, and identifying learning and development needs to support timely progression.
3. Coordinate placements and partner engagement
Plan, coordinate and oversee trainee placements with Debt Free Advice delivery partners, building effective relationships with host organisations to ensure placements provide safe, high-quality learning experiences that support trainee development and programme objectives.
4. Monitor performance and manage programme delivery
Monitor trainee performance, progression and wellbeing, proactively identifying and managing risks to learning, quality or programme delivery. Contribute to programme reporting, maintain accurate records, and support the successful delivery of the Debt Free Academy against agreed milestones and quality standards.
5. Contribute to training and continuous improvement
Support the design, development, coordination and delivery of induction, policy, technical training, skills development and continuing professional development (CPD) activities across the Debt Free Advice partnership. Promote best practice, share learning, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Debt Free Academy and wider training programme.
6. Contribute to the wider Training Team
Work collaboratively with colleagues across Toynbee Hall and the Debt Free Advice partnership, undertaking additional duties as required to support the effective delivery of the Debt Free Academy, organisational objectives and funder requirements.

Training
Starting a career in Children’s Social Care comes with a lot to learn, which is why we provide a 4-week fully paid induction and training programme to make sure you feel supported and confident in your new role.
Working Hours
Our children and young people need support around the clock so our homes run 24/7 and we operate on fixed rotas with a variety of shift patterns.
As a Trainee Practitioner, you’ll work day shifts between 8am and 10pm, with 8, 10 or 12-hour shifts available. You’ll usually work an average of 40 hours per week, including weekends and bank holidays.
For example, if you work four 10-hour shifts, you’ll then have three days off. Overtime is available and paid at time and a half, including bank holidays.
At our Ealing home, you’ll be required to complete an average of 2 sleep-ins per week, paid at £50 each.
