About The Opportunity

This is a brand-new role. Our Head of Housing Development will establish and lead our national Housing Centre of Expertise: the capacity- and capability-building engine behind our 10,000 Homes ambition. This is not a scheme-delivery role — local YMCAs build, own and operate their own homes. Instead, you will mobilise the talent and resources of the Federation around a shared platform for scale: guiding local YMCAs from feasibility through to investment-readiness, brokering the partnerships and expertise no single YMCA could assemble alone, and leading a single national conversation with strategic partners including Homes England, the Greater London Authority and Welsh Government. You will establish a panel of preferred development partners, support funding bids, and help YMCAs learn from one another rather than rebuilding expertise scheme by scheme. Success will be measured by the pipeline and capability you build across the movement, not by any single project.

About You

You bring real knowledge of social and affordable housing development, including structuring significant financing models, grant regimes and the regulatory landscape, alongside hands-on experience of property development projects and securing private and public-sector funding. You know how to build strategic partnerships, convene and influence people you do not manage, and translate strategy into coordinated action across independent partners. Experience mobilising change across a federated, membership or infrastructure organisation would be a strong advantage, combined with an in-depth knowledge of  Homes England, Greater London Authority and Welsh Government or similar agencies. Above all, you are a natural relationship-builder who can represent YMCA with confidence at a senior, national level, while helping local YMCAs move further and faster together than they could alone.

Financial Leadership 

• Prepare, review, and present draft and final budgets for approval by the board, ensuring timely submission of financial information to the CEO and Trustee Board. 

• Oversee financial reporting processes, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with regulatory standards, including variance analysis and annual balance sheets, ensuring timely submission of financial information to the CEO and Trustee Board. 

• Manage the reserves policy, ensuring regular review and alignment with operational needs and financial risks. 

• Identify and manage financial risks, ensuring integration into the organization’s risk register and adherence to appropriate mitigations.

• Ensure that the day-to-day finance and back-office function is high performing and compliant, safeguarding effective and efficient financial management processes. 

• To co-ordinate the proactive and timely dissemination of high-quality financial information to services, the CEO, and Board such as annual budgets, monthly management accounts, cash flow analysis, financial forecasting and monthly business performance figures.

• To ensure that the organisation has in place, robust and compliant financial systems and procedures; and that these are complied with by all budget holders, ensuring that any oversights are fully investigated and reported upwards as necessary.

• To lead on the preparation of statutory accounts, provide year end accounts, provide appropriate support and assistance to the organisation’s auditors and delivery of recommendations arising from the Audit process.

• To ensure that all statutory returns are complete in a timely and effective manner, including those in relation to VAT, PAYE, NIC and SSP, and that appropriate compliance dates are met for the Charities Commission and Companies House.

• Oversee the transactions, activities and processes of the external payroll provider.

• To monitor and advise on current and future tax legislation, with a view to optimisation.

• To support service managers in the preparation of bids and contract negotiations and provide financial activity analysis and reports in line with specific project reporting requirements.

• To monitor, report and make recommendations regarding the Investment and Reserves Policy to the Board.

• To oversee the payroll function to ensure employees are paid in an accurate and timely manner.

• To monitor and control creditors and debtors, ensuring invoices are paid on time and the risk of bad debts is minimised.

Compliance and Risk Management 

• Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory frameworks, including the Charity Commission, Companies House, FCA, ICO, and other relevant bodies. 

• Maintain and regularly review financial systems, controls, and policies, ensuring they are effectively implemented and aligned with legal requirements. 

• Conduct due diligence for pension, redundancy, and other liabilities, ensuring plans are in place for management and mitigation. 

• Support the trustee board in understanding risks related to projects and contracts, providing assurance of compliance with funders’ requirements. 

• To lead on the Risk Management process, advising the CEO and managers on risk matters, and reviewing the risk register on a regular basis, reporting to the Board of Trustees.

• To check, amend and monitor the Financial Procedures Manual; reporting material breaches to the CEO and Board of Trustees, as required/in-line with governance.

• Working with the senior leadership team monitoring and updating Insurance matters as required, reporting to the CEO and Board of Trustees.

Business Support Operations 

• Lead on organisational business continuity planning, ensuring resilience during crises and alignment with the charity's objectives. 

• Oversee the development, implementation, and review of key policies, ensuring they reflect legal obligations and organisational values. 

• Manage IT systems and cybersecurity measures to protect organisational data and operations, ensuring compliance with standards such as Cyber Essentials. 

Strategic Contribution 

• Provides proactive strategic financial advice and guidance to the Trustees and wider leadership team, monitoring and reporting on the financial performance against agreed targets, identified risks and key performance indicators. 

• Provide financial and operational insights to inform strategic decision-making and long-term planning. 

• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and financial accountability across the organisation. 

• Funding strategy: Support the CEO and board to regularly review the sustainability of its income sources and their impact on achieving charitable purposes in the short, medium and longer term.

• Work with the CEO and Head of Impact and Development to prepare the funding strategy that should go beyond immediate budgetary considerations and look at the wider funding landscape. The organisation needs to understand potential emerging opportunities and the organisation's readiness to pursue them.

• Build and maintain effective relationships with trustees, funders, regulators, and key stakeholders, to ensure that Citizens Advice Stevenage meets its financial, regulatory and legal obligations. 

• Provide leadership and support to finance and business support teams, ensuring professional development and effective performance management. 

People management and development  

• Develop and implement a culture of continuous learning that will equip and develop people to deliver outstanding delivery. Responsibility for the training and development plan for the Finance and Business Support ensuring it is in effective operation including maintaining records of training needs identified and training attended.

Person Specification

Purpose of the role and Reporting Lines

The Communications Officer will report to the Communications and Digital Manager. The role works closely with our Project Managers, and technical project leads. The Communications Officer will facilitate effective and engaging communications across the organisation (internal and external) with particular emphasis on enabling effective communication of our project’s work/outputs, demonstrating impact, and enhancing dissemination to a wider and more diverse audience.

We are looking for someone with a passion for translating technical nutrition/public health content and communicating it to a broad array of stakeholders, ensuring it is widely accessible, to drive effective and positive change in nutrition policy, practice and research at global, regional and national levels.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the Communications and Digital Manager in executing ENN’s communication strategies (both internal and external) by:

Project Communications, Publication and Dissemination

· Plan and execute a communication and dissemination plan for each project/output, working alongside the technical project lead, project manager and communication and digital manager, within budget/resourcing.

· Produce an array of professional dissemination resources (e.g. social media content, brochures, posters, visual abstracts etc) to effectively communicate our work to different audiences (both technical and non-technical)

· Create engaging visual multimedia content for use on ENN websites, social media channels and online events, under the support and direction of the Communications and Digital Manager.

· Manage an image bank, ensuring that it is refreshed, and that all imagery has been appropriately licensed/credited. Identifying suitable imagery for use in various contexts.

· Support with procurement, coordination and briefing of copyeditors, designers, videographers, translators, printers and other external communication service providers as needed. Review and check proofs and coordinate feedback/revisions.

· Assist with the production and dissemination of ENN’s flagship publication Field Exchange (both print and digital in English and French).

· Set up and administer online meetings, launch webinars, and in-person dissemination events e.g., conference side events etc.

Website and social media

· Online content production and day-to-day updating and uploading of content on ENN’s website, and YouTube channel.

Key Responsibilities

Help Restore the Rivers of the North East 

Tyne Rivers Trust is looking for a proactive and enthusiastic Project Delivery Officer to deliver ambitious river and habitat restoration projects that will help make the North East more biodiverse and resilient to a changing climate. 

We work to restore the rivers of the Tyne and Northumberland, from Cumbria and South Tyneside to the coastal streams around Budle Bay, for the benefit of people and wildlife. Following our expansion to include the Northumberland River catchments, we are entering an exciting period of growth, with increasing opportunities to deliver practical restoration at scale. 

This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to turn restoration plans into action on the ground. You will work alongside our talented technical team, landowners, consultants, contractors and partners to deliver high-quality projects that restore rivers, improve habitats and enhance the health and resilience of our catchments. 

About the Role 

As Project Delivery Officer, you will have responsibility for the delivery of river and habitat restoration projects, taking them from development through consenting, procurement and construction to completion, with support from our Project Delivery Manager and technical specialists. 

The role will involve delivering a range of projects, including river restoration, wetland creation, floodplain reconnection, natural flood management and habitat improvement. Working alongside colleagues with expertise across river, land, species and water management, you will coordinate contractors and consultants, manage budgets, undertake site visits and work with landowners and stakeholders to deliver safe, effective and high-quality restoration projects on the ground. 

There may also be opportunities to deliver commercial environmental projects through our consultancy arm, River Catchment Services, helping to generate vital income for the Trust. 

Key Responsibilities 

Restore habitats 

• Manage contractors, consultants, schedules, procurement and budgets to ensure effective delivery of river restoration, habitat creation, floodplain reconnection, natural flood management and wider environmental improvement projects to completion 

• Deliver all works in line with CDM 2015 regulations 

• Work with landowners, partners and stakeholders to secure permissions and agreements and support effective project delivery.

• Undertake regular site visits, oversee works and resolve issues to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and to the required standards.

• Manage project documentation, close-out and post-project monitoring, capturing outcomes and lessons to inform future restoration work. 

Work with Landowners, Land Managers and Partners 

• Build positive working relationships with landowners, land managers, partners, consultants, contractors and other stakeholders. 

• Work collaboratively to identify and develop opportunities for river restoration and habitat creation. 

• Communicate technical and practical aspects of restoration projects to a range of audiences. 

• Help identify opportunities to deliver multiple environmental benefits through integrated catchment restoration. 

Project Delivery 

• Maintain project programmes, budgets, risks and reporting requirements for assigned projects. 

• Develop work programmes and delivery plans, identifying emerging risks, delays and resource requirements. 

• Contribute practical delivery input and cost information to funding applications and project proposals. 

• Help develop consistent approaches to project mobilisation, procurement, contractor management and project close-out. 

• Contribute to improving TRT’s project delivery systems and processes as our restoration programme expands. 

About You

You will bring: 

• Experience delivering environmental, river restoration, habitat creation or construction-based projects.

Summary

The postholder will be responsible for the day-to-day finance of Rainbow Haven. Tasks include managing the day-to-day finance system and records; producing regular and accurate financial reports.

The postholder will work closely with, and report to, the Chief Executive Officer.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Financial support

1. Production of timely and accurate monthly management accounts.

2. Prepare rolling monthly cash flow reports.

3. Manage the organisations different funding streams.

4. Support the payroll process as necessary.

5. Work with the CEO to create finance reports for funders and donors.

6. Work with the CEO to create reports and present financial records to external auditors, the finance committee and TEMCA Board as required.

7. Manage and reconcile bank accounts.

8. Raise and pursue payments of invoices related to income as required.

9. Balance Sheet reconciliation work.

10. Maintaining accurate petty cash, supplier invoices and online payments via the QuickBooks online system.

5. Oversee Rainbow Haven’s email and Office 365 systems, working with our IT contractors to ensure our systems are fit for purpose.

6. Work within the organisation’s policies and procedures, and ensure all office and administration work is line with these.

About Rainbow Haven

Rainbow Haven is based in Gorton, Manchester. We are a community service for refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants needing support. We have a weekly open-access advice drop-in session, with follow-on appointments.  At our drop-in sessions we welcome people to our centre and offer advice and information, hot lunches and social/well-being activities.  We offer a range of other well-being, educational and social activities, including classes in digital skills and ESOL and other targeted support to help people into further education or employment; and opportunities for particularly isolated groups such as new mothers, to connect with each other and with relevant professional services. 

Our service users come from many different countries and speak many languages.

We receive funding from a wide range of charitable foundations, from local authorities and through partnerships with other local charities in the sector.

Cranstoun is a social justice and harm reduction charity supporting and empowering people to live healthier and safer lives. Each year, we support more than 45,000 people through services including substance use, criminal justice, domestic abuse, housing and services for children and young people.

We are now recruiting an Assistant Directors of Services to join our senior management team. 

This is a significant senior leadership role offering the opportunity to lead substantial service portfolios while helping shape how Cranstoun’s services are led and delivered across the organisation. 

The role 

Reporting to the Director of Operations, you will lead a substantial portfolio of complex commissioned services and senior operational managers. 

You will lead nine services with nine direct reports, spanning criminal justice and housing/homelessness provision. You will have clear accountability for ensuring services are safe, effective and well-led, with strong contractual performance, financial sustainability and positive outcomes for the people and communities we support. 

You will provide operational grip and evidence-based assurance, strengthen safeguarding and management accountability, build effective relationships with commissioners and partners, and ensure risks and underperformance are identified, escalated and addressed early. 

You will also work collectively with fellow senior operational leaders to embed a One Cranstoun approach, strengthening common standards, sharing learning, developing leadership capability and improving quality and resilience across our services. 

What you will be accountable for 

As an Assistant Director, you will take senior operational accountability for: 

• Safe, effective and well-led services – ensuring strong safeguarding, quality, operational risk management and service user outcomes.  
• Contractual performance – ensuring services deliver against contractual requirements and KPIs, with strong commissioner relationships and timely action to address underperformance.  
• Financial sustainability – maintaining strong financial oversight, effective workforce management and oversight of the sustainability of individual contracts.  
• Evidence-based assurance – using reliable performance, quality, workforce and financial information to identify risks and drive improvement.  
• Collective organisational leadership – working beyond individual portfolio boundaries to build consistent standards, stronger leadership and shared ways of working across Cranstoun.  

You will lead and develop senior operational managers, set clear expectations and create a culture in which support and accountability operate together. 

You will also lead and contribute to service mobilisation, transformation, workforce planning and continuous improvement. 

Who we are looking for 

We are looking for established senior operational leaders with substantial experience leading complex commissioned services and geographically dispersed teams. 

You will bring a strong track record of: 

• leading safe, high-quality services for people with complex needs;  
• safeguarding, quality and operational risk management;  
• contract and performance management;  
• managing significant service budgets and improving financial performance;  
• building effective relationships with commissioners, regulators and strategic partners;  
• leading service improvement, mobilisation and organisational change;  
• developing senior operational managers and addressing underperformance; and  
• using performance, quality, workforce and financial information to provide assurance and drive improvement.  

You will need to combine strategic leadership with operational pragmatism, understanding the detail when necessary while maintaining oversight of performance, risk, quality and sustainability across a complex portfolio. 

Above all, we are looking for collaborative, credible and values-led leaders who can support and challenge in equal measure, build leadership capability and bring people together around common standards and organisational priorities. 

Specialist experience 

For this role, you will need significant leadership experience across both Criminal Justice and Housing/Homelessness services, including housing or accommodation-based provision. 

You will understand the complexity of working across criminal justice, housing, local government and other statutory systems and be experienced in building effective relationships with commissioners and partners while maintaining strong operational and contractual oversight. 

This is a 12-month fixed-term appointment at an important stage in Cranstoun’s transformation, offering the opportunity to lead a significant portfolio, strengthen operational performance and help shape the future development of our operating model.
