ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an exciting time for the Helen Bamber Foundation as we continue to grow our impact and strengthen our services for survivors of torture, trafficking and human cruelty, as well as those seeking protection. Our work is more crucial than ever as we advocate for vulnerable individuals within a challenging and evolving global landscape.

This year, we are looking to recruit a Trustee and Chair of the Finance and Fundraising Committee to replace the current postholder, who is retiring from the role. This is a key position within the Helen Bamber Foundation’s Board of Trustees, providing oversight of the charity’s financial health and helping to ensure strong financial governance.

Working closely with the CEO of the Helen Bamber Foundation, the Director of Finance and Governance, and the Board, the Trustee will support strategic decision-making by ensuring that trustees have clear and accurate financial information and that the charity operates with robust financial controls. The role also plays an important part in helping the Board balance ambition and growth with responsible financial stewardship.

As a Trustee, you will be part of a small team of volunteers who are collectively responsible for developing and guiding the strategic direction of the charity and supporting its long-term stability.

From our humble beginnings we have seen continued and exciting growth which has allowed us to further develop and expand our support programmes alongside the opening of several retail outlets, high street stores and a community hub and café.

Our mission is to support those facing multiple barriers to employment by providing mentorship, employment opportunities and holistic support. Overview

The Rebuild with Hope Foundation is a fast growing and impactful charity supporting those facing barriers to work. Due to our continued growth we are looking to increase and diversify our Board membership. We are looking to appoint Trustees, no former experience is required as training will be provided. We are also looking to appoint a Treasurer a long with an experienced Chair of the Board. There are separate recruitment packs for each of the three roles, with each outlining the different knowledge and experiences required .

As Trustee you will help steer the charity towards achieving its mission. As a Trustee, you will play a key part in shaping the charity’s future, ensuring accountability, transparency, and effective governance. Role Description

Board Members are jointly and severally responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, its financial health, probity of its activities, developing the organisation’s aims, objectives, and goals in accordance with the Constitution, legal and regulatory guidelines. All Board Members should be aware of and understand their individual and collective responsibilities and should not be overly reliant on one or more Members in any aspect of the governance of the charity.

Chair Specific Duties

• Rebuild with Hope operates within the law, and according to its constitution and its commitments to stakeholders and is adequately resourced to meet its commitments.
• Rebuild with Hope develops an effective strategy in line with the core values of the organisation
• All Board Members are fully involved in discussions and decisions, and the contribution of individual Members is monitored. The Chair will encourage group decision making, teamwork, and a sense of shared purpose, and will foster a sense of inclusivity and shared mission by informing the Board at each meeting of any ‘Chair’s business’ which has taken place since the last meeting
• The Board’s agenda is appropriate and focuses on the key strategic issues, all planned business is dealt with in an equitable, fair manner and a conclusion is reached in each case, and that decisions are clearly and accurately minuted
• The Board continually monitors Rebuild with Hope’s progress, and that Board Members have regular, timely and relevant information on strategic and financial issues and key risks
• Board Members have a proper knowledge and understanding of their roles and responsibilities
• The Board delegates, as appropriate, to its Committees and to its Chief Executive
• Regular reviews of Board, Committee and Chief Executive performance are undertaken, and a programme of development processes for the Board, its Members, and the Chief Executive is established
• Periodic reviews of the composition and workings of Rebuild with Hope are undertaken to ensure it continues to respond appropriately to changes in the wider environment
• Effective use is made of the Board’s time within, and between, meetings
• The Board receives professional advice when necessary
• The support and commitment of Rebuild with Hope’s partners and key stakeholders are developed and sustained
• They represent Rebuild with Hope as required and foster positive relationships with a range of stakeholders. The Chair will ensure that a high profile is maintained for the organisation, and that stakeholders are kept informed of our work
• Positive working relationships are maintained among Board Members and with the Chief Executive to enable an appropriate balance of challenge and support to be provided 

Duties

• Ensuring the charity complies with legislative and regulatory requirements and acts within the confines of the Constitution and its charitable objects.
• Acting in the best interest of the charity, beneficiaries, and future beneficiaries.
• Promoting and developing the charity to help it grow and maintain its public benefit.
• Maintaining sound financial management and control of the charity’s resources.
• Ensuring a fully effective and appropriate system recruitment, for appointment the and monitoring of the work and activities for the CEO and Senior Management team.

• Maintaining absolute confidentiality about all aspects of Trustees’ business

The BDFA is seeking a new Volunteer Treasurer/Trustee to join our passionate and dedicated Board.

As a trustee, you will play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the BDFA, ensuring strong governance, and helping to improve the lives of children, young people, and families affected by Batten disease across the UK.

The overall role of Treasurer is to maintain an overview of the organisation’s affairs, ensure its financial viability and ensure that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.

As our Treasurer, you will:

• Oversee, approve and present budgets, accounts and financial statements
• Assure that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs
• Prepare and present financial reports to the Board
• Ensure that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place
• Have oversight of and give guidance to BDFA Accounting & Financial Administration Officer
• Attend board meetings
• Present financial overview at the AGM

Ideal Background:

Fully qualified chartered accountant/financial qualifications and experience. Some experience of charity finance and fundraising.

This is a voluntary role, but the personal and social impact is immeasurable.

About us

Batten disease is a very rare genetic disorder that affects the brain and nervous system. Symptoms sometimes begin in infancy and sometimes later in childhood, after apparently normal early development. Occasionally it may start in adulthood. In individuals suffering from Batten disease, nervous system function steadily declines, causing a wide variety of neurologic problems, including loss of vision and seizures. The life expectancy of a child born with Batten disease can vary, depending on the form of the disease and the age of onset. Some children die in early childhood, while others may be able to live into their teens or twenties.

The BDFA was registered as a charity in 2001 and our mission is “to enable children and adults who are affected by Batten disease to live life to the full and to provide families with the care and support they need so that they do not walk this path alone.” The BDFA offers informed guidance and support to families and the professionals who work with them, as well as actively raising awareness, and promoting research into the management of Batten disease to improve patient care pathways and ultimately find a cure.

Phyllis Tuckwell is an independent Hospice Charity based in Farnham, Surrey. They offer specialist palliative care in a compassionate and friendly environment. They aim to provide equitable supportive and end of life care to those with an advanced or terminal illness and to their families.

Their services help around 2,000 people each year and include a newly built hospice which can accommodate 18 in-patients, a living well centre, outpatient appointments, and a community service, including our Hospice Care at Home team.

About the Trustee opportunity

Phyllis Tuckwell  is currently seeking to appoint a Trustee who is an experienced qualified accountant and business professional and has:

• a clear understanding of our mission to put the patients and their families at the centre of any decisions made;
• compassion with a respect to the nature of Palliative care;
• knowledge of the Charities Statement of Recommenced Practice (SORP);
• strategic finance experience, business acumen, and the ability to communicate complex financial information effectively to trustees from a range of professional backgrounds;
• a desire to work collaboratively with fellow Trustees and volunteers;
• strategic thinking for the charity’s long-term aims;
• integrity so that decisions made by the Board are in the best interest of the Charity;
• good governance to ensure we comply with our legal and ethical goals and;

The Board usually meets 4 times each year. In addition to which Trustees are expected to attend the annual Strategy Away Day with the Senior Management Team and sit on at least one of the quarterly sub committees, many of which can be held via Teams. The Hospital Broadcasting Association (HBA) is seeking a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees. This is an opportunity to use your financial skills and strategic insight to support a national charity that helps more than 140 hospital, health and wellbeing broadcasting organisations develop, collaborate and thrive.

What you'll do

As Treasurer, you will work closely with fellow Trustees to oversee the charity's finances and support effective decision-making. Responsibilities include:

• Providing financial oversight and helping to ensure the charity meets its legal and regulatory obligations.
• Working with the Board to develop annual budgets and longer-term financial plans.
• Monitoring financial performance and presenting reports to Trustees.
• Preparing the annual accounts and financial review for inclusion in the Trustees' Annual Report.
• Liaising with the charity's Independent Examiner.
• Overseeing financial systems, controls and banking arrangements.
• Maintaining and reviewing financial policies and procedures.
• Supporting the Board to ensure the charity's long-term financial sustainability.

About you

We're looking for someone who:

• Has experience in financial management, accounting, bookkeeping, finance leadership or a related discipline.
• Can interpret financial information and communicate it clearly to non-financial audiences.
• Understands, or is willing to learn, the responsibilities of charity trusteeship.
• Can think strategically and contribute to the long-term direction of the organisation.
• Is organised, reliable and able to work to agreed deadlines.
• Is comfortable using digital collaboration tools, including Microsoft 365, Teams and SharePoint.
• Enjoys working collaboratively as part of a volunteer-led team.
• Shares our commitment to supporting hospital, health and wellbeing broadcasting.

Previous charity trustee experience is welcome but not essential, and we encourage applications from people with transferable financial expertise gained in the private, public or voluntary sectors.

Trustee responsibilities

As a Trustee, you will share collective responsibility for the governance, financial sustainability and strategic direction of the HBA.

The HBA is an entirely volunteer-led charity with no paid staff. As a result, our Board operates as a working Board, with Trustees contributing not only to governance and decision-making but also, where appropriate, to the delivery of the charity's objectives. This may include supporting projects, overseeing volunteer teams, working with external stakeholders and providing professional expertise in your area of knowledge.

We're looking for someone who is comfortable balancing strategic oversight with practical involvement in the organisation and who wants to play an active role in helping the charity grow and succeed.

Meetings and commitment

The time commitment is approximately 4 hours per week on average, with some busier periods throughout the year.

The Trustee Board meets formally, in-person, every two months, usually on the third Saturday, with informal catch-up meetings taking place via Microsoft Teams on a weekday evening in the intervening months.

Location and travel

This role can be carried out from anywhere in the UK, with most Board business conducted online.

Trustees are expected to attend Board meetings and may occasionally be asked to attend sector events, including the HBA Annual Conference and Awards, meetings with stakeholders and visits to member organisations.

Reasonable travel and out-of-pocket expenses incurred while carrying out Trustee duties will be reimbursed in line with the Association's expenses policy.

We're seeking a trustee with experience in arts, culture, philanthropy or charity governance to complete the board of a new international arts charity supporting emerging artists. As a trustee you'll play an essential role in shaping the early direction of ellipse art projects UK and helping us open new opportunities for emerging artists from Southeast Asia, Africa, in the UK.

This year, we're launching our UK charity alongside our existing French endowment fund, submitting our registration to the Charity Commission, and preparing our first major partnership with a cultural non profit organisation in London. This is a chance to make a huge difference through volunteering as Trustee for a life-saving charity which has been having a positive impact in North Somerset since 1994.  We provide professional, low cost counselling and mental health support for people who cannot get the help they need through the NHS and cannot afford to pay for private therapy.  You will hear testimonies of adults and teenagers who have had their lives turned around because of Wellspring.  The Finance Trustee plays a vital role in keeping our organisation on track by ensuring accounts are kept up to date and accurately, having oversight of all our financial matters and providing forecasting to help keep the charity viable and sustainable.

The Finance Trustee should be or have been a finance professional preferably with experience in accounting.  You will keep in contact with the Director and Administrator regularly (1-2 times per month), and meet with the other friendly and caring Board of Trustees once every two months to report on our finances.

In detail the role inovles:

• Ensuring that proper accounting records are kept, and that appropriate accounting

procedures and controls are in place.

• Ensuring that robust and comprehensive financial policies are in place and being

implemented, and supporting the development of policies covering financial

reserves, and cost management.

• Monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the charity.

• Overseeing financial controls and adherence to systems, regularly liaising with

Director and Senior Administrator.

• Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan, including

overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process

• Ensuring investments and assets are maximised.

• Lead on the appointment of and liaison with the Independent Examiner.

• Oversee the development and implementation of systems for appraising, mitigating

and reporting corporate risk.

• Acting as Company Secretary for the Charity.

• Ensuring that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by

relevant statutory bodies, for example, the Charity Commission and/or the Registrar

of Companies.

• Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities and

liaising with the Director to develop the financial understanding of the Board of

Trustees.
