About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and technically strong finance professional to lead our Financial Accounting and transaction processing functions. This is a senior role within the Finance / Resources directorate, reporting to the Director of Resources and playing a key part in ensuring the accuracy, integrity and effectiveness of the College’s financial accounting arrangements.
The postholder will be responsible for the overall management and performance of the financial accounting and transaction processing teams, supporting statutory reporting, technical accounting, treasury management, tax compliance, financial systems development and effective financial control across the group. The role covers the accounting arrangements for the College, its subsidiary and the Malaysian company, with responsibility for maintaining high-quality accounting records and supporting informed decision-making by senior leaders and the Trustee Board.
About the role
You will lead the preparation of annual financial statements for the group and single entity, ensure timely submission of regulatory returns, and provide expert advice on technical accounting matters including FRS 102, Charity SORP, OSCR requirements, VAT and other tax matters. You will also oversee key reconciliations, maintain effective financial controls, manage treasury arrangements and banking relationships, and support the development of financial systems and procedures.
As a senior member of the finance team, you will work closely with the Head of Financial Reporting and Analysis, senior leaders, committee chairs, external auditors, consultants and colleagues across the organisation. You will also lead, motivate and develop a team of

About you
You will be a qualified accountant with a recognised professional accountancy qualification, such as ICAEW, ICAS, ICAI, ACCA or CIMA, and significant experience in financial accounting. The Charity team is responsible for raising millions of pounds each year to ensure Christie patients receive the very best care and treatment. This includes everything from access to world first clinical trials and receiving radiotherapy in state-of-the-art treatment centres, to young adults being cared for in a bespoke age-appropriate centre and being able to offer patients anxiety reducing complementary therapy, or even creative sessions in our art room.

You’ll play a key role in coordinating projects, forums and partner relationships that help more young people access the life-changing opportunities offered by uniformed youth groups. Working closely with our Director, network members and partner organisations, you’ll keep activity on track, support stakeholder engagement, gather insight, and help shape clear reporting and future plans.
This is a varied and rewarding role for someone who is highly organised, proactive and comfortable working with people at all levels: from operational leads to senior stakeholders. You may be coordinating national network forums one day, supporting research and interviews the next, or helping bring uniformed youth organisations together for Remembrance Sunday activity at the Cenotaph.

Role Overview
The Assistant Finance Manager supports the Deputy CEO in delivering a high-quality finance function. This role is integral to the day-to-day financial operations of the business, contributing to financial control, reporting, and analysis. The role also involves supervising junior finance staff and deputising for the Deputy CEO where required.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Control and Governance
· Assist in the preparation and maintenance of the month-end timetable, ensuring deadlines are met.
· Prepare the management accounts, including reconciliations and supporting schedules.
· Review and assist with bank reconciliations and nominal ledger maintenance.
· Complete VAT, fixed asset accounting, and general ledger integrity.
· Assist with payroll processing, HMRC reporting, and pension submissions.
· Contribute to the preparation of year-end statutory accounts and liaise with external auditors.
· Provide cover for finance operations tasks (e.g. loan postings, payments, refunds) as required.
Financial Analysis and Reporting
· Assist in analysing financial performance and investigating variances against budget.
· Track grant utilisation and spend.
· Contribute to KPI reporting, covenant tracking, and reporting to stakeholders.
Budgeting and Forecasting
· Assist in the preparation of budgets and periodic reforecasts.

Person Specification
Essential
· Part-qualified or newly qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent).
