Chief Executive Officer - The Brain Charity

Location: Liverpool-based - occasional travel across Merseyside and the UK

The Brain Charity is a Liverpool-based national charity supporting adults, children and their families affected by any of more than 600 neurological and related conditions. Since our roots in Merseyside community neurology (1992) we have grown a centre-based offer, hospital liaison roles and a national information, training and support service - from practical welfare and legal advice, counselling and rehabilitation (Neuro Gym) to peer connection via The Brain Food Café and employer/school training. As our next Chief Executive, you will:

• Strategic leadership: Develop and deliver a 5-year strategy and an operational plan with clear priorities that secures the charity’s long-term impact and sustainable growth.

• Service quality & impact: Embed rigorous outcome measurement, quality assurance and contract compliance so our impact drives commissioning and service development.
• People leadership: Stabilise staff morale, lead and develop a high-performing Senior Leadership Team, and promote wellbeing and inclusive working practices.
• Governance & financial stewardship: Provide timely, high-quality reporting to the Board; oversee budgeting, forecasting and risk management to safeguard financial sustainability.

Who you are:

• An experienced Chief Executive or senior director with a minimum of three years’ experience at CEO or equivalent level.
• Proven track record of winning and managing commissioned contracts and delivering against local authority or health contracts.
• Skilled at building strategic partnerships and commanding credibility with senior stakeholders across health, local government and the voluntary sector.
• Confident at leading turnaround and financial sustainability work - experienced in budgeting, forecasting and making difficult decisions when needed.
• A values-led, collaborative leader with high emotional intelligence, resilience and a commitment to co-production and inclusion.

Rowans Hospice Charity provides free care and support to adults and their families living in the Portsmouth and South East Hampshire region who have a life-limiting illness. Established in 1994, our income is generated by ongoing support of the local community, donations, legacies, fundraising and through our retail shops.

The Role

To provide high-level, proactive, and confidential administrative and executive support to the Senior Leadership Team and the Board of Trustees. This role ensures the efficient coordination of meetings, communications and strategic initiatives by managing schedules, preparing documentation and facilitating effective information flow. The EA acts as a key point of contact between internal and external stakeholders, supporting the governance and operational effectiveness of the Charity at the highest levels.

You will be the lead administrator for governance, ensuring all statutory and regulatory obligations are met, whilst also supporting the effective running of executive meetings, day-to-day leadership functions and education placements.

Key Responsibilities include (but not limited to – see Job Description for further information)

• Provide PA support to the Chair, Deputy CEO, Company Secretary and SLT, including diary management, correspondence, travel, and meeting coordination
• Provide efficient and professional support to the Board of Trustees and delegated committees, including scheduling, producing annual meeting calendars, preparing agendas, circulating papers, taking accurate minutes and following up on actions
• Provide administrative and logistical support for Doctors and Nursing Student placements
• Develop and maintain efficient systems and processes for executive administration

The ideal candidate will have:

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role ideally in a charity
• Strong written and verbal communication
• Professional and confident interpersonal manner
• Ability to draft high-quality correspondence and reports
• Experience in formal minute-taking and senior board level

Our adult adoption support service works primarily with adopted adults and birth families. Adopted adults can access their records and receive an intermediary service and be supported through a reunion. Birth families are supported at the time of losing children to adoption, helped to stay in touch through letterbox and can potentially also have an intermediary service towards reunion.

Your skills

We are looking for a Social Worker or Counsellor, who has experience of working directly with those affected by adoption. You will have experience and knowledge of adoption law and practice and able to liaise with partner agencies to deliver the service in North and West Yorkshire.

You will be a dedicated and enthusiastic professional who is committed to improving the outcomes for adoptive and birth families, adopted adults and relatives. You will also have strong verbal and written communications skills and be able to deliver the service to a high standard.

This is one of the most important roles within Shine Cancer Support. You’ll be overseeing and supporting Shine’s volunteers around the country, ensuring that they have what they need to reach as many young adults with cancer as possible. You’ll also work closely with Shine’s Programme Delivery Manager to deliver training and support programmes directly to young adults with cancer and healthcare professionals.

Location:  Hybrid, with two days per week at Shine’s offices in Blackheath, South East London or in Poole, Dorset.

Hours & salary:  Full time (35 hours per week). Salary range is £33,000 - £35,000 pro rata, depending on experience.

This is a one year contract to cover maternity leave starting mid/late January 2026.

Key responsibilities

Volunteer Support

• Support Shine’s volunteer Network Leaders across England, Scotland and Wales to develop their Shine Networks, ensuring that they provide the best possible support to young adults with cancer. This will include an annual support plan, developing and testing new ways of expanding Shine’s reach, and regular catch-up calls. 

• Work with Shine staff and facilitators to recruit, train and support new volunteers from across the UK.

• Deliver an annual plan for training and support, touching on issues such as outreach and fundraising.

• Maintain and develop Shine’s online information pages for Shine volunteers.

• Organise and facilitate online meet-ups for Shine beneficiaries.

Programme Delivery

• Assist the Programme Delivery Manager and facilitators to deliver Shine’s core programmes (Break Out programme, Shine Circles) to Shine beneficiaries, as well as training to healthcare professionals.

• Create new connections with healthcare professionals across the UK. This will include linking to relevant Cancer Alliances and Integrated Care Boards.

• Oversee the administration and management of relevant monitoring and evaluation processes.

Reporting to the Senior Supporter Care Manager, you will deliver excellent customer care to supporters and potential supporters of Operation Smile UK. As an integral part of the Supporter Care team, you will successfully support the Individual Giving programme and wider fundraising activities, providing support to ever-increasing income and supporter stewardship for the delivery of increasing levels of unrestricted income for Operation Smile UK.

Key Responsibilities

• Be the first point of contact for existing supporters and new supporters who respond to our fundraising activities by phone, email, letter or in person, letter, or email delivering outstanding supporter care
• Liaise with supporters in timely communication via email, phone, and mail, with excellent customer care
• Prioritise answering incoming phone calls and escalate any difficult situations/complaints to the Senior Supporter Care Manager
• Support processing incoming phone and postal donations
• Assist with banking and processing incoming/outgoing post
• Be responsible for thanking our supporters, including by letter, email and phone, dispatch of information and fundraising materials
• Enter and maintain accurate records on our Database
• Maintain and assist with all types of donation processing, administration and Database record amendments/records being kept up to date. This will include Gift Aid status and contact consent requests
• Assist with cancelling and amending all types of regular gifts and sending out appropriate letters
• Manage the removal process and consent process
• Assist with sending out problem payment letters
• Following up cancelled regular payments as part of the winback process
• Assist with handling material requests and recording actions on the Database
• Assist with any third-party agency supporter care requests

About the Team

Sitting in the wider Fundraising Directorate, this role sits within our small but mighty Legacy Marketing team, which is part of our wider Legacy and Donor Development team (who look after our cash and raffle programmes). Ideally a fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or) with proven experience in a finance role.

Experience managing finance within the charity, not-for-profit, or SME sector.

We are looking for a Philanthropy Manager to join this small but ambitious, growing and successful team at Chester Zoo and help drive the Major Gifts income stream forwards. 

The Role

As Philanthropy Manager you will play a key role in generating funds and lead on the high value relationship strategy. Duties will include:

• Identifying and researching potential major donors and implementing plans to attract these high-value individual philanthropists
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with existing and prospective donors.
• Leading and curating exceptional engagement opportunities through events, experiences and donor visits.
• Keeping accurate records to include all communications, donor plans, pledges, proposals and gifts.
• Ensuring gift administration and recognition.

The Person

We’re looking for someone with a demonstrable experience in securing and managing philanthropic gifts from individuals and an ability to write exceptional, accurate and compelling proposals. The Combined Cadet Force Association (CCFA) is a charity dedicated to the promotion of the ideals and activities of the Combined Cadet Force in schools. The Role

The Events Assistant will provide administrative and event delivery support to the Head of Events and the Events Coordinator in the planning and delivery of physical and virtual meetings, events and courses.

This role is hands on and varied and duties will include:

• Supporting the delivery of BAUS’s flagship Annual Meeting and a calendar of Specialist Section Meetings, Education Courses and virtual events.
• Maintaining accurate delegate and speaker databases, attendee lists and name badges.
• Assisting with event websites, mobile apps, social media and marketing campaigns.
• Liaising with venues, suppliers, exhibitors and delegates.
• Providing administrative support including processing payments, handling enquiries, and producing post event reports.
• Supporting set up, breakdown and onsite delivery of events (some travel and overnight stays will be required).

The Person

We are looking for a motivated and adaptable individual with strong organisational skills, excellent attention to detail and a collaborative approach. You should come to us with experience working in an events environment, or the completion of an Events Management course.

This promises to be an exciting and busy role so you will need to be comfortable working in a fast paced environment, and have the ability to multitask effectively demonstrating a high level of customer service skills.

Perhaps most importantly you should be enthusiastic, flexible and pro-active, be a genuine team player and able to work independently when required as well as collaboratively along with colleagues.
