National Voices
Making what matters to people matter in health and care
National Voices is the leading coalition of health and social care charities in England. We have more than 200 members covering a diverse range of health conditions and communities, connecting us with the experiences of millions of people. We work together to strengthen the voice of people: patients, service users, carers, their families, and the voluntary organisations that work for them.
Our Vision:
People shaping their health and care.
Our Mission:
We advocate for more inclusive and person centred health and care, shaped by the people who use and need it the most.
We do this by:
· Understanding and advocating for what matters to people especially those living with health conditions and groups who experience inequalities.
· Finding common cause across communities and conditions by working with member charities and those they support.

Our approach to hybrid working
We recognise the importance of coming together regularly, in-person, as a team, so we can share learnings and spend social time with each other. We also recognise that people need flexibility, and that homeworking enables focused work and can fit well in people’s lives.
We ask all staff to take part in pre-arranged team meetings which take place every six weeks in our office space. We also might ask you to meet in-person with members of your team from time to time, or to be available for face-to- face meetings with clients and partners where this enhances the work.
We assume that this would usually not amount to more than one day per fortnight for people who work full time. We are happy to discuss how this sits in your life. This can be agreed by your line manager.
In addition, because this role involves engaging with and recruiting to a large network of VCSE organisations, the post holder will be required to regularly attend in-person events across England. These are likely to take place around once a month and may sometimes require overnight stays. Travel, accommodation and subsistence costs for events across England will be paid, however, travel to our London office will be at the expense of the postholder.
Please note that our offices are fully wheelchair accessible and that we are committed to making our workplace fully inclusive.

YEF Detached Youth Work Area Lead
Relationships change lives.
At M13 Youth Project, we believe every young person deserves trusted adults who believe in them, walk alongside them and help them discover who they are, what they have to offer and the difference they can make. For over 30 years, we've built those relationships through detached youth work - meeting young people where they choose to be, listening deeply and creating opportunities for belonging, belief and hope.
We're now looking for an experienced Detached Youth Work Area Lead to join our team and play a key role in one of the UK's most ambitious detached youth work research pilots.
M13 is leading the Greater Manchester consortium delivering the Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) Detached Youth Work Pilot. The Pilot aims to build a strong evidence base for detached youth work, combining outstanding frontline practice with rigorous evaluation to shape the future of youth work nationally.
Reporting to the YEF Detached Youth Work Project Lead, you'll work across three neighbourhoods and lead detached youth work in at least two of these, within M13's delivery of the pilot. You'll be responsible for delivering high-quality detached youth work outdoors in public spaces (on streets, in parks and other community spaces), modelling excellent relational detached youth work practice, supporting less experienced colleagues through day-to-day practice, contributing to monitoring and evaluation, and building positive relationships with young people, local residents, community organisations and partner agencies.
This is first and foremost a frontline detached youth work role. You'll spend much of your week in outdoors in parks, streets and neighbourhoods, building trusted relationships with young people through conversation, consistency and purposeful informal education. Alongside this, you'll help ensure high-quality implementation of the YEF Shared Practice Model within your neighbourhood patches, contribute to monitoring and reporting and work closely with the Project Lead and wider team to support the successful delivery of the pilot.
We're looking for someone who is a qualified (NVQ L2 in Youth Work) and experienced (2 years) detached youth worker, confident leading excellent practice and passionate about relational detached youth work. You'll be organised, reflective and proactive, with experience of taking responsibility for detached youth work within a neighbourhood, maintaining high-quality records, building effective local partnerships and supporting colleagues through encouragement, reflection and shared learning. Most importantly, you'll share our belief that relationships are the foundation for meaningful change.
This is a 22.5- 25 hour per week, community and office-based role (M13's full-time week is 37.5 hours). Your week will include six detached youth work sessions (three afternoons and three evenings), alongside planning, monitoring, partnership working and reflective practice. Some flexibility can be offered around when office-based work is undertaken, where operationally possible.
In return, we offer a supportive, reflective and values-led working environment, regular supervision, ongoing professional development, a generous employer pension contribution, TOIL for out-of-hours working, additional Christmas gift leave and the opportunity to contribute to nationally significant research that could shape the future of detached youth work.
If you're an experienced detached youth worker, confident in leading work in ourdoor community public spaces, ready to combine outstanding frontline practice with leadership of detached youth work across neighbourhoods, learning and innovation, we'd love to hear from you.
Please submit your CV together with answers to the five questions below, limiting your response to 200 words per question. Please do not exceed the word limit as doing so may affect the scoring of your answers. Please use examples from your own practice, explaining not only what you did, but why you made particular decisions and what you learned. We use a blind recruitment process to help ensure fair and equitable recruitment. Applications will be shortlisted against the Person Specification, so please demonstrate how your skills, experience and values meet the requirements of the role. We welcome examples from paid or voluntary roles, and recognise that many skills are transferable.
We exist to be a consistent, trusted presence in communities experiencing deep-rooted inequality.

This is a unique opportunity to lead fundraising for a charity at the cusp of substantial growth, with an exceptional track record of recent fundraising success, an engaged base of supporters and significant untapped potential across multiple channels.
Overview
As Director of Fundraising and Development for Plum Village UK, you will provide strategic leadership of the charity’s fundraising at this critical juncture. Building on the successful campaigns that brought our new Being Peace Practice Centre into being, you will lead the development of a sustainable, diversified fundraising operation across donor stewardship, trusts and foundations, regular giving, legacies, and partnerships, to deepen relationships of trust and gratitude with our supporters.
This role is ideal for a fundraising leader, whether from a career fundraising background or another field, who brings strategic capability alongside deep alignment with the Plum Village tradition, where fundraising itself becomes a form of engaged practice in service of mindfulness and community transformation.
Fundraising in the Plum Village tradition is fundamentally relational. It is not a matter of extracting income from a base of supporters, but of deepening the relationships of trust, gratitude and shared purpose with those who make our work possible, in ways that embody the values of the tradition. Done well, fundraising is itself a form of engaged practice. The Director will be expected to lead the function in this spirit.
The role comes with a high level of strategic ownership. An initial fundraising strategy has been developed and shared with trustees, providing a framework of priority channels, governance arrangements and resourcing for the next phase. The new Director will inherit this as a starting frame, and will then be empowered and expected to develop, refine and bring forward a fundraising strategy on their own authority, working closely with the Lead Trustee for Fundraising and presenting proposals to the board as appropriate. The role also carries operational ownership of the fundraising mechanics, including the choice and management of supporting systems, databases and tools.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic leadership of fundraising
-
Lead PVUK's fundraising strategy, developing and refining the strategic direction, and presenting proposals to the Board for approval and resourcing.
-
Set, monitor, and report on fundraising targets across all income channels, in agreement with the Lead Trustee for Fundraising and the Board.
-
Provide regular substantive updates on fundraising at quarterly board meetings, working with the Lead Trustee on the preparation of board-level reporting.
-
Bring forward analysis and proposals to support the Board in setting wider strategic priorities, including realistic income potential by channel and the investment required to secure it.
-
Identify and manage risk in the fundraising portfolio, including channel concentration, donor over-reliance, and the sustainability of resourcing.
Donor stewardship and relationship development
-
Lead the stewardship of PVUK’s existing donors, lenders, and supporters with the depth of care that this base deserves, recognising it as the most precious resource of the fundraising function.
-
Cultivate and deepen relationships with major donors, including through personal contact, site visits, and tailored communication of impact.
-
Work with the Chair of Trustees, the Centre Director, and other senior figures on key relationships that require their involvement.
-
Steward the friendly lender base throughout the lifetime of their loans, maintaining trust and keeping them informed of the charity’s progress.
-
Build and maintain a culture of gratitude and recognition that appropriately honours the contributions of all supporters.
Income channel development
-
Lead delivery and growth across PVUK’s priority fundraising channels: donor stewardship, trust and foundation fundraising, regular giving, legacies and Gifts in Wills, and partnerships with values-aligned organisations and networks.
-
Develop trust and foundation fundraising as a substantial new income stream, including scoping aligned funders, building peer-to-peer introductions, constructing tailored funding propositions, and overseeing high-quality application writing and reporting.
-
Design and grow a regular giving programme that converts members, retreatants and supporters into ongoing monthly donors.
-
Develop a structured legacy and Gifts in Wills programme that normalises legacy giving across PVUK’s communications and supports those who wish to leave a Gift in their Will.
-
Develop partnerships with values-aligned organisations and networks where these support both income generation and the wider reach of PVUK’s work, in close consultation with monastics and trustees.
Operations, systems and budget ownership
-
Own the operational mechanics of fundraising for PVUK, including the choice, configuration and ongoing management of databases, donor management systems, online giving platforms, and integration with communications tools.
-
Manage the fundraising budget, including a discretionary supplementary budget for consultancy, training, materials creation, contracted support and light administrative resource, deployed at the Director’s judgement to develop the function effectively.
-
Maintain accurate, GDPR-compliant supporter records and ensure sound data practices throughout the fundraising operation.
-
Provide accurate financial reporting on fundraising performance, working with PVUK’s finance function and external accountants as required.
-
Make the case for additional resourcing where evidence of need supports it, including the possible recruitment of a Fundraising Officer in due course.
Communications and storytelling
-
Lead the development of compelling fundraising narratives that authentically convey the work of PVUK and the Being Peace Centre to multiple audiences, including major donors, institutional funders, individual supporters and the wider public.
-
Work closely with the PVUK Communications team on the integration of fundraising communications with the wider communications strategy.
-
Commission and oversee the production of fundraising materials, including written content, graphic design, video and digital assets, drawing on contracted specialists where appropriate.
-
Ensure that all fundraising messaging about the Being Peace Practice Centre is agreed with the Centre Director before publication.
Working partnerships across PVUK
-
Work in close partnership with the Centre Director on all matters relating to Being Peace, with agreed ways of working on messaging, external representation, and any programming commitments made to funders.
-
Work with the Lead Trustee for Fundraising as primary day-to-day point of contact at board level, supporting the Lead Trustee to hold strategic oversight of fundraising on behalf of the Board.
-
Work with colleagues across PVUK’s communications, dharma programming, sangha-building and partnership functions, with these working relationships developing naturally in the first months of the role.
-
Draw on external advisors and specialists as needed for support and assurance, both in technical fundraising disciplines and in sector-specific knowledge.
-
Engage volunteer capacity from within the community where this can valuably supplement the fundraising operation.
We build mindful communities in the UK inspired by the teachings of ‘Father of Mindfulness’ Thich Nhat Hanh.

Location: Hybrid, London EC1Y and homeworking
Reporting To: Co-Chief Investment Officer
Contract: Permanent, full time
Salary: £95,700–£110,000
Date Closes: Thursday 24th September
About Better Society Capital (BSC)
Better Society Capital (BSC) is the UK's leading social impact investor. Our 2026–2030 strategy is to positively impact 15–20 million lives by mobilising £20–30 billion of capital into investible solutions that tackle some of the UK's biggest social and environmental challenges — across housing, economic opportunity, climate & energy and health.
Investing BSC’s capital is an essential tool for delivering those goals, using our leading impact investment approach to identify social issues and business models that can tackle inequality and change millions of lives.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to play a leading role in shaping markets for impact and to contribute to the success of one of the leading impact investors in the UK, while furthering your career in impact investment. Lending is one of the three core asset classes that BSC invests in, connecting £bns of capital with thousands of enterprises throughout the UK, while contributing to BSC’s sustainable portfolio returns. It is led by a dedicated team whose remit comprises five sub-asset classes: Bank Equity, Direct Lending, Blended Finance, Outcomes and Renewables. The team is focused on mobilising capital for key priorities in BSC’s strategy – what we call our “Opportunity Areas”, including the UK government’s flagship Better Futures Fund – as well as leading on several market wide initiatives such as the Blended Finance Collective.
As Asset Class Lead for Lending, you will own how this capability achieves BSC’s mission: setting and delivering an investment strategy that serves BSC’s strategic priorities and portfolio returns; building the market of the future so that more capital flows to the opportunities with the greatest potential to tackle inequalities for millions of people in the UK; and leading a high-performing team that both executes a leading impact investment process with excellence and acts as an agent of change in the system. You'll report to one of BSC's Co-Chief Investment Officers and sit on BSC's Senior Management Team.
This is a role for someone who combines the discipline and judgement of an excellent investor with the desire and drive to change systems so that more capital is deployed for impact. You have the vision, relationships and expertise to devise strategies that shift how government, investors and enterprises think about lending for impact, and to find, execute and manage the deals that deliver this ambitious vision.
What Success Looks Like
By the end of year one
•You have a clear, ambitious investment strategy for Lending that your team, your peers on the Investment Leadership Team, and the Investment Committee understand and that aligns with the overall strategic and investment objectives of BSC.
•You are making investment decisions that balance financial return, systems change and social impact, with a pipeline of deals you have helped originate, drawing on BSC’s track record, market insight and investment process.
•Your team is clear on expectations, feels supported to grow, and executes with pace and rigour.
•You are a trusted voice on the Investment Leadership Team, contributing beyond your own remit to building a world class impact investment team.
•You have established yourself as a credible and influential voice in the lending sector, building relationships with the key institutions and fund managers.
Over time
•Lending at BSC continues to have a rigorous investment process that supports excellence in investment decision making and execution, portfolio performance that meets BSC's return and impact objectives and a high quality future opportunity set.
•You have deepened your external relationships — with government, institutional investors, co-investors and enterprises — that genuinely shift how capital flows to your sub-asset classes; policymakers and investors seek your view.
•Your team has grown in capability, confidence and ambition; people want to work with you because they know they'll be stretched and developed.
•BSC, and the wider market, can point to lending models or partnerships you've built that others replicate at scale, contributing meaningfully to BSC’s strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
Investment strategy and delivery
•Set the investment strategy and approach for Lending, defining how it delivers systems change, social impact and financial return in line with BSC's strategy, supported by a high quality investment process.
•Build and deliver a pipeline of compelling and aligned investment opportunities across the lending sub-asset classes.
•Own and present investment recommendations to the Investment Committee, supporting your Investment Directors and Investment Managers.
•Manage portfolio performance with Impact Investment Management, Middle Office and Finance, including borrower/fund relationships and special situations.
•Contribute a portfolio-wide perspective to BSC's annual strategic asset allocation process.
•Participate in Investment and Performance Committee, Valuation Committee and other investment governance forums.
Market building and external leadership
•Be the voice of Lending at BSC — building a compelling narrative, internally and externally, that positions BSC as the partner and thought leader of choice.
•Be an agent for systems change, working with Policy, Investor Partnerships & Advisory and Communications to shift market conditions, influence policy and unlock capital at scale.
•Build and steward strategic relationships with government, institutional investors and the social sector.
•Lead significant cross-organisational projects that contribute to BSC’s 2030 strategic goals, combining investment with BSC’s other capabilities such as policy and investor advisory.
•Represent BSC through speaking, writing and industry engagement that builds your and BSC's credibility and influence in the field.
Team leadership
•Lead your team to deliver BSC's goals and your investment strategy, with clear priorities that connect daily work to mission.
•Design your team's structure and ways of working, and own resource allocation and budget for the Lending Asset Class.
•Develop your team's skills and careers through long-term development plans, strong performance management and intentional talent development.
•Contribute to Investment Leadership Team decisions on development planning, talent standards, and succession across the investment team.
•Build a diverse team where different perspectives and backgrounds are a genuine strength.
Organisational leadership and partnership
•Participate as a full member of the Investment Leadership Team and BSC's Senior Management Team, contributing to decisions and culture beyond Lending.
•Partner with Policy, Investor Partnerships & Advisory, Communications, Legal, Finance and People & Talent to deliver organisational goals.
•Lead or contribute to cross-organisational initiatives that advance BSC's mission. Model the behaviours we expect of leaders at BSC: sharing information proactively, giving and receiving feedback as a habit, and treating collective decisions as genuinely collective.
Skills and Experience
Essential Qualifications & Experience
•A strong track record and understanding of credit investment, ideally with some exposure to one or more of: lending to social purpose organisations including social enterprise and charity lending, blended finance, impact private credit, renewable energy lending or social outcomes partnerships.
•Experience leading and developing a team of investors, with accountability for portfolio performance and originating new opportunities in an area of investment.
•A demonstrated ability to build relationships that shift outcomes in the system — with government, institutional & mission driven investors and social sectors — even if you haven't held all of these at once before.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
•Experience operating across the public, private and social sectors, and translating complex or technical points for different audiences.
•Experience navigating investment governance and committee processes at a senior level.
•A track record of structuring deals or partnerships that have shifted market conditions beyond the transaction itself – by unlocking follow on capital, building infrastructure or proving a model that changed what others were willing to fund.
•Direct experience in social impact investment is an advantage but we are also open to strong candidates bringing relevant experience from an adjacent background, for example, development or sustainable finance, public finance and institutional investors with a strong interest in impact.
Skills, Abilities and Attributes
Strong alignment to BSC’s Values & Behaviours
•A genuine connection to BSC's mission — tackling inequality and unlocking capital for lasting social and environmental impact in the UK.
•Motivated by systems change – and strong strategic thinker who thinks in systems, not only transactions: you consider the wider system and its key actors, understand the barriers to change, and find the inflexion points where investment can shift the whole market.
•Comfortable holding both ends of the job: rigorous, technical investment judgement and the outward-facing skill to build partnerships and shift market thinking. Resilient and realistic about the pace of change in impact-led capital — bold in ambition, grounded in delivery.
•Energised by ambiguity and by building things that don't yet exist, rather than executing an established playbook.
•Driven by curiosity, a learning mindset and strong commitment to growth and development.
•A genuine team player: you actively seek out challenge, share credit and seek to build collaborative partnerships that bring the best skills and experience to deliver on mission.
Our mission is to grow the amount of money invested in tackling social issues and inequalities in the UK.

White Lodge is a leading charity supporting children, young people and adults with disabilities and their families. With more than 60 years’ history, we support over 2,500 people across Surrey and beyond through specialist services and facilities in Chertsey.
White Lodge is a community as much as a service provider, built around our values of ENABLE: Equity, Nurture, Advocacy, Belonging, Language and Empathy. Our Active Plan 2025–30 sets four ambitions: Enhance accessibility and social opportunities; Champion customers' voices in health and social care; Transform local attitudes; and Strengthen its resources.
With strong systems, governance and a diversified income base, White Lodge is well placed for its next phase. The new CEO will provide continuity while bringing strategic, operational and entrepreneurial leadership to respond to a changing funding environment and pursue new opportunities, including a children's services tender.

- Leadership: Lead and develop a committed workforce, fostering an inclusive, accountable and values-led culture.
- Governance & Finance: Partner with the Board to ensure strong governance, financial sustainability and effective risk management.
- Operations: Ensure high-quality, person-centred services and effective organisational systems and performance.
- Income & Partnerships: Diversify income and develop relationships with commissioners, funders, NHS partners and the wider community.
- Influence & Advocacy: Champion customers' voices, strengthen White Lodge's profile and help transform attitudes towards disability.
- Safeguarding & Compliance: Ensure high standards of safeguarding, regulatory compliance, equality and ethical leadership.

- Experienced in leading substantial teams and complex services, with strong financial, operational and commercial understanding.
- A strategic thinker with a track record of organisational change, sustainable growth and measurable outcomes.
- Experienced in working effectively with a Board, commissioners, funders and strategic partners.
- An emotionally intelligent, inclusive and entrepreneurial leader who builds trust, creates clarity and brings people with them.
- A compelling communicator and ambassador, committed to equity, inclusion, dignity, safeguarding and ensuring lived experience shapes decisions.
- Experience of disability, social care, children's services or another regulated service environment would be advantageous, as would commissioned services or significant tender experience. Previous CEO experience is desirable but not essential; exceptional Directors or Deputy CEOs ready to step up are encouraged to apply.
Why White Lodge?
- Help create a world that is inclusive to all, regardless of ability.
- Lead an established charity with a committed team, strong systems and strengthened governance.
- Deliver the ambitions of the Active Plan 2025–30 and pursue new opportunities.

An exciting opportunity!
This is a rare and genuinely exciting opportunity to lead the UK's only dedicated charity supporting children, adults and families affected by MPS, Fabry disease and related lysosomal storage disorders. Following the current Chief Executive's planned move to become Managing Director of Rare Disease Research Partners (RDRP) in January 2027, the incoming CEO will take the helm of an organisation with over forty years of history, a trusted national reputation and a growing role on the international rare disease stage. The successful candidate will shape the strategic vision for more than 1,800 families, oversee the close partnership between the Society and its research subsidiary RDRP, and champion the patient and family ethos that sits at the heart of the organisation's work. It is an opportunity to combine ambitious strategic leadership with deeply meaningful, human impact, working alongside a committed Board, Senior Leadership Team and wider community of clinicians, researchers and pharmaceutical partners.
As our next Chief Executive, you will
- Define and deliver the MPS Society’s strategic vision.
- Provide confident oversight of governance, finance, compliance and reporting.
- Effectively manage the operational alignment between the MPS Society and RDRP.
- Always keep the members and family voice at the heart of strategy, service design and decision-making.
- Build and maintain senior-level relationships with statutory bodies, government agencies, pharmaceutical partners, clinical expert centres and other key stakeholders to support the Society’s objectives, influence policy and practice, and protect its professional reputation.
- Act as a visible and credible public voice to raise awareness, improve visibility, support, treatment access and outcomes for people affected by MPS, Fabry disease and related conditions.
- Collaborate with other rare disease bodies, patient organisations and other key audiences.
- Lead and empower the senior leadership team through effective delegation, early involvement in strategic discussions, clear accountability and support for individuals to flourish.
- Encourage an open, supportive work environment allowing creativity and building staff confidence.
- Help shape the future of the MPS Society.
About you
- Self-motivated, with the drive to lead the organisation through a period of change and transition.
- Unquestionable probity and personal integrity, given the trust placed in the CEO by families, trustees and partners.
- Exemplary written and verbal communication skills, able to convey complex scientific and clinical information to audiences ranging from clinicians to families with no prior knowledge of MPS disorders.
- Strong self-awareness, with insight into their own leadership style and impact on others.
- Emotional resilience, able to sustain performance while supporting a community facing life limiting conditions.
- A collaborative and empowering leadership style, able to build trust, delegate effectively and help individuals across the organisation flourish.
- Genuine passion for the Society's mission, with a family and member-first ethos.
- Confidence to build relationships across a wide range of stakeholders, from beneficiaries and Trustees to politicians, media and pharmaceutical partners.
- A proactive, positive approach, comfortable reacting to change and organising their own work to meet deadlines.
- Confidence speaking publicly on behalf of the organisation and the people it represents.
Why join us?
A close-knit, values-led culture. With just over thirty staff across the Society and RDRP combined, this is a place where the CEO can know the team personally, work closely with families day-to-day, and see the direct results of decisions rather than managing at a distance through layers of bureaucracy.
- Genuine autonomy to shape direction. The Board is explicitly looking to the new CEO to bring fresh thinking on technology, AI, and digital tools, and to give real freedom to modernise fundraising, services, and engagement rather than simply maintaining what already exists.
- A stable foundation to build from over forty years of track record, trusted relationships and a strong national reputation mean the incoming CEO can focus energy on vision and growth rather than firefighting or rebuilding credibility from scratch.
- Proximity to cutting-edge science: the Society's close relationship with RDRP gives the CEO regular exposure to advances in rare disease research and treatment access, while day-to-day research leadership sits with the RDRP Managing Director, allowing the CEO to focus on strategy, people and sustainability.
- A high-visibility, high-influence platform. Regular contact with government, pharmaceutical companies, clinicians and international rare disease bodies offers strong opportunities to build a public profile and personal network well beyond the charity sector.
- A team that already shares the mission. Staff are described as passionate about the Society's aims, and as having a family-first ethos, so the new CEO inherits a culture to lead and empower rather than one that needs to be built from the ground up.
- Work with a different kind of return. Beyond salary and career progression, this role offers the less tangible reward of knowing that strategic and financial decisions translate, into better support for families facing some of the rarest conditions in the country.
Benefits
Join us and you will be working for a caring charity offering:
- A competitive salary
- Generous annual leave
- Extra leave between Christmas and the New Year
- Contributory pension
- Life assurance (subject to the conditions of the scheme)
- Employee assistance programme offering support 24/7
