In the last four years we have tripled our turnover, moved from delivery at one site to having thirteen outreaches and have doubled the number of clients we are seeing. We are now looking for an enthusiastic, full time Welfare Benefits Worker to build up a much needed Welfare Rights Unit. We have a small unit of volunteers who support clients with appeals, and our next stage is to build a volunteer based form filling service. Whilst holding a small caseload of your own, it is the development of this service that would be your principal task.
To be successful you will need to be a qualified Citizens Advice Adviser, preferably with experience of delivering Benefits casework, and to be able to develop and lead volunteers. If the longer term Welfare Rights Unit project interests you but this post would not be an option for you as it stands, we would also welcome a conversation.
Our service operates to very high standards, but we also work hard to make it an enjoyable and supportive work environment.
If this sounds like a team you would fit into please e-mail your updated CV and a covering letter to Chris Roberts, Chief Executive using the e-mail title “Benefits vacancy”.
Applications close at Midnight on Sunday 2nd August. Provisionally interviews are planned for Thursday 13th August.
Due to the potential number of applicants we are sorry but we will not be able to enter into correspondence or discussion with unsuccessful candidates.

National Voices
Making what matters to people matter in health and care
National Voices is the leading coalition of health and social care charities in England. We have more than 200 members covering a diverse range of health conditions and communities, connecting us with the experiences of millions of people. We work together to strengthen the voice of people: patients, service users, carers, their families, and the voluntary organisations that work for them.
Our Vision: People shaping their health and care.
Our Mission: We advocate for more inclusive and person centred health and care, shaped by the people who use and need it the most.
We do this by:
· Understanding and advocating for what matters to people especially those living with health conditions and groups who experience inequalities.
· Finding common cause across communities and conditions by working with member charities and those they support.
· Connecting and convening charities, decision makers and citizens to work together to change health and care for good.
The Role
At National Voices, our aim is to make what matters to people matter in health and care. Too often, we see decisions made about the design of health and care services which don’t consider the people who use and need those services – especially those with long term conditions and from groups experiencing inequality. While the intentions of decision makers are usually good, they can unwittingly develop services which are difficult to access, stressful to experience and which don’t enable people to live life to its full potential.
We believe that if health and care leaders were better supported to meaningfully involve people living with health conditions, disability, inequality and their carers in decisions about how services are delivered then our NHS and social care services would be more equitable, and person centred.
At National Voices, we believe that this can best be achieved by connecting health and care leaders in health and care to key groups including:
· Leaders within the patient participation movement, who can support and advise health and care leaders on how to share power with people and communities using coaching and quality improvement techniques, and by acting as a critical friend.
· Leaders from voluntary sector organisations and community groups, who can bring insight into the needs, experiences and priorities of the communities they serve. They can identify opportunities to improve how services are designed and delivered, and help connect decision-makers with communities whose voices are often underrepresented.
· People with lived experience of inequality, particular conditions or services, who bring unique expertise based on their direct experience of care. They can provide timely insight into the impact of policies and services, helping decision-makers stay tuned to current needs, experiences and priorities, rather than relying on historical evidence or assumptions.
We are looking for a Participation Manager who can lead on the design, development and delivery of funded projects that generate insight, support improvement, and enable meaningful participation in health and care decision making. This will include end-to-end responsibility for project design, delivery, reporting and impact.
Projects may include designing and delivering activity such as workshops, coordinating lived experience advisory groups, coordinating coalitions of VCSE organisations, undertaking qualitative research, facilitation and engagement work. The postholder will need sufficient breadth of experience across these areas to confidently design and steer programmes, while drawing on colleagues, partners and associates for specialist input where needed.
You will be responsible for overall programme management - ensuring projects are well planned, appropriately resourced, and delivered on time, within budget and to a high standard. This includes managing risks, reporting requirements and funder relationships.
Projects may also include co-ordinating the delivery of Voices for Improvement coaching relationships and workshops on meaningful participation. We are open to a Participation Manager who has skills and experience around coaching theory and practice, however, we can also bring in external Associates with this subject matter expertise where needed to guide and supervise the coaching elements of the process.
You will also play an active role in identifying and developing new funding and partnership opportunities, contributing to the growth of National Voices’ portfolio of externally funded work.
Finally, where needed, you will also work collaboratively with another Participation Manager who leads National Voices’ Lived Experience Partner programme, membership scheme and partnership programme. You will contribute to these areas where required, particularly where they intersect with funded projects, but they will not be the primary focus of this role.

· Translate insights and findings into clear, accessible outputs in collaboration with policy and communications colleagues to support influence and impact
· Develop and shape new funding opportunities and proposals to grow the organisation’s portfolio of externally funded work

Our approach to hybrid working
We recognise the importance of coming together regularly, in-person, as a team, so we can share learnings and spend social time with each other. We also recognise that people need flexibility, and that homeworking enables focused work and can fit well in people’s lives.
We ask all staff to take part in pre-arranged team meetings which take place every six weeks in our office space. We also might ask you to meet in-person with members of your team from time to time, or to be available for face-to- face meetings with clients and partners where this enhances the work.
We assume that this would usually not amount to more than one day per fortnight for people who work full time. We are happy to discuss how this sits in your life. This can be agreed by your line manager.
Please note that our offices are fully wheelchair accessible and that we are committed to making our workplace fully inclusive.
Application guidance
Please submit a CV and cover letter to apply. We are also recruiting a permanent Participation Manager role at the same time. If you would like your application to be for both roles, please make this clear in your cover letter.
You're welcome to use AI tools to help you prepare your application. However, we encourage you to make sure your application reflects your own voice and experiences. We often see similar AI-generated writing styles, which can make applications less distinctive. As a charity, we're particularly interested in hearing why our mission matters to you and how your values align with ours.
Please specify any access or other requirements of which we need to be aware for the online interview.
The deadline for applications is 5pm on Thursday 30th July.
The interviews will take place in early August on Microsoft Teams. Details of an interview task and interview questions will be emailed to you in advance.
We are committed to diversifying our team in order to broaden the insight and experiences we can draw on, and to do our work more credibly. In particular, we would welcome applications from older people, disabled people and people who have experienced socioeconomic inequality. Our offices are fully accessible and we are a Disability Confident and an LGBT+ friendly employer.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

Chiltern Music Therapy is seeking an Interim Chief Executive Officer for a 12-month appointment to lead an ambitious programme of organisational transformation and sustainable growth. Working closely with our Board and team, you will strengthen our financial sustainability, develop new opportunities for growth and leave the organisation well positioned for its next permanent Chief Executive.
Hello, we’re Chiltern.
We are a social enterprise providing music therapy, community music services and training across England. Each year, we support more than 2,000 children, young people and adults across health, education, social care and community settings.
For many years, we have been exploring and developing a more self-managing and distributed approach to organisational life — one rooted in trust, autonomy, shared responsibility and reflective practice. This has helped us build a highly engaged and thoughtful team, alongside services that make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
We are entering an exciting period of change, with a clear ambition to strengthen our commercial sustainability, increase our reach, grow our income and ensure our operating model is fit for the future. This interim appointment is a key part of that journey, bringing focused leadership to help us deliver meaningful organisational change while remaining true to our collaborative culture and values.
About the role
This is a delivery-focused interim leadership role with a clear mandate to accelerate organisational transformation and sustainable growth over the next 12 months.
The role combines strategic leadership of the organisation with hands-on responsibility for strengthening financial sustainability, business development, organisational alignment and ensuring the organisation is well positioned for long-term success.
We are looking for a CEO who is excited by creating opportunities. Someone who enjoys building relationships, spotting potential and turning ideas into sustainable partnerships that increase both our impact and our income. A central part of this role is generating new business for Chiltern by developing strategic partnerships, securing larger-scale opportunities and helping us grow in ways that remain true to our values and culture.
The role requires someone who can comfortably hold both the bigger picture and the operational reality — someone who enjoys being connected to the organisation, understanding how things are working in practice and helping create the conditions for people and services to thrive.
We are looking for a leader who is relational, commercially aware and emotionally intelligent; someone who can navigate complexity with clarity and steadiness, and who is comfortable working within a collaborative and distributed leadership culture rather than a traditional hierarchy.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for someone who can operate effectively in a self-organising, values-led, evolving system.
We are interested in hearing from people with senior leadership experience within complex, people-focused organisations.
You may come from health, education, social care, the charity sector, social enterprise, or another relevant service environment. What matters most is your ability to step into organisations during periods of change and quickly build trust, momentum, and clarity.
The successful candidate will leave a lasting legacy by strengthening the organisation's sustainability, capability, and readiness for its next phase of development.
You'll work within a collaborative and, values-led organisation, but you'll also be expected to provide clear direction, make confident decisions, prioritise effectively, and deliver measurable progress over a 12-month period.
You will likely bring:
Experience leading organisational transformation or significant change
A track record of driving sustainable growth and income generation
Strong commercial and financial leadership
Ability to quickly build credibility with Boards, staff and external partners
Experience delivering measurable organisational improvement
Excellent relationship-building and influencing skills
Confidence making decisions in complex environments
Experience of self-managing, employee-owned or distributed leadership environments would be welcomed, although this is not essential.
We’ve outlined the essential and desirable experience, knowledge and attributes for this role in the full candidate pack.
We know that strong candidates do not always meet every requirement. If this role resonates with you, we would encourage you to consider applying.
Recruitment process
We aim to make our recruitment process thoughtful, proportionate and human. You will be asked to complete an application form, answering some questions to demonstrate your skills and how you meet the requirements of the role.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview/ strategic leadership conversation with Board members and will be asked to deliver a presentation.
The application deadline is Sunday 26th July at midnight, with interviews/strategic leadership conversations taking place at Irwin Mitchell, London, EC4Y 0AY on Wednesday 12th August.
A full candidate pack is available here, including further information about the role and our organisational approach.

Creating Hope Together
Creating Hope Together is Scotland's suicide prevention strategy and action plan (2022–2032), published by the Scottish Government and COSLA. Its vision is to reduce the number of suicide deaths in Scotland while tackling the inequalities that contribute to suicide, so that any child, young person or adult who has thoughts of taking their own life, or who is affected by suicide, gets the help they need and feels a sense of hope.
All of the work is delivered in line with the strategy's guiding principles: putting inequalities and diversity first; co-developing our work with people with lived and living experience; embedding Time, Space, Compassion; keeping the voices of children and young people central; connecting people across sectors to learn together; reducing the stigma of suicide; and ensuring our work is evidence-informed.
The role
This is a new role, hosted by Change Mental Health on behalf of Suicide Prevention Scotland, created to support delivery of Outcome 3 of Creating Hope Together: that everyone affected by suicide is able to access high quality, compassionate, appropriate and timely support.
The postholder will work alongside colleagues in the delivery collective - primarily the Time Space Compassion (TSC) Lead and the Children and Young People (CYP) Lead - to support delivery of a range of actions across the Delivery Plan. In practice this means helping partners in community, primary care, unscheduled care and mental health settings to put person-centred, compassionate approaches into everyday practice; growing the reach of Time, Space, Compassion across Scotland; and strengthening support for children and young people at higher risk of suicide.
The role focuses on enabling practical change in real-world settings through strong partnerships, effective communication, and the thoughtful use of learning and evidence to support continuous improvement. It sits within a small, collaborative team and works across a wide network of national and local partners, including NHS Boards, local authorities, third sector organisations, the Lived and Living Experience Panel (LLEP) and the Youth Advisory Group (YAG).
Key Responsibilities
Support delivery of implementation and improvement resources in practice
- Support partners to work at a national and local level to embed person‑centred, compassionate approaches to supporting people affected by suicidal thoughts and behaviours.
- Work with partners and draw on the latest evidence, best practice and a range of experts, to identify and respond to barriers and enablers to implementation
- This includes supporting the adaptation and implementation of national improvement and implementation resources, with a particular focus on:
o The roll out of the Enabling Conversations Toolkit for children and young people, in the CYP sector
o The Time Space Compassion approach, including work to support the implementation of personalised risk management approaches in community and clinical settings.
Build and maintain stakeholder relationships
- Develop and maintain relationships with strategic, community and lived experience partners at both national and local level, holding a portfolio of implementation partnerships.
- Represent the work of Suicide Prevention Scotland in multi-agency partnerships and networks, building trust, setting realistic expectations and delivering reliably.
- Work in close partnership with colleagues across the delivery collective to ensure a coherent, joined-up approach across Outcome 3 and the wider delivery plan.
Lead communications and knowledge sharing
- Develop and deliver engaging, accessible communications that promote learning and support the spread of our resources and projects.
- Use digital channels and networks to share insight and good practice.
- Create content that is trauma-informed, inclusive and practice-focused.
Support evaluation and continuous improvement
- Work with local and national partners to develop and implement proportionate evaluation activity that identifies impact, learning and opportunities for improvement.
- Synthesise and share learning to inform the future development of our resources, including producing clear, accessible written summaries.
Project coordination and management
- Support national and local partners to plan, coordinate and administer implementation activity, maintaining project plans, milestones and risk registers.
- Monitor progress against delivery plan milestones and prepare updates and reports for governance groups.
- Support budget tracking and ensure value for money.
General Duties:
- Act in accordance with Data Protection legislation. Ensure all records, personal, staff and client data are managed in line with Data Management and Information Governance policies.
- Comply with legal and regulatory requirements such as provisions set out in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
- As with all employees, workers and volunteers; to encourage people to join Change Mental Health as a member, donor or activist.
- To act in accordance with the charity's Health & Safety and Safeguarding policies and to notify your line manager promptly if there are any concerns.
- To participate in regular supervision and appraisal and undertake any relevant training as appropriate to the role.
- To work in accordance with the charity's national policies and local operating procedures and those of external regulators or professional bodies.
- Undertake other related duties in line with the scope and purpose of the role, as agreed with the line manager.
Essential Criteria:
- A track record of delivering change and of working in multi-agency stakeholder partnerships and groups.
- The ability to build understanding quickly and become effective in the role at pace.
- The ability to build and maintain trust – setting realistic expectations and delivering reliably, with an approach that balances ambition with pragmatism.
- The ability to find a way through complex topics and situations, prioritising the most important tasks to make the best use of time.
- A strong commitment to compassionate, person-centred ways of working, and to ways of working that can be applied in day-to-day practice.
- The ability to apply group learning principles to support collective improvement and development.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills, including the ability to produce sensitive, trauma-informed and equity-focused materials and session plans.
- Strong organisational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and meet deadlines.
- A commitment to co-production with people with lived and living experience, and to tackling the inequalities that contribute to suicide.
- Willingness and ability to travel across Scotland, with occasional overnight stays.
