This Christmas, we are delighted to present local charity, The Joel Community Trust, with a special donation. Find out more about the charity, and their plans for the future!
Based at St Peter’s Church in Kingston, the Joel Community Trust offers homeless people sanctuary, friendship, and spiritual refreshment. The trust was set up in 2010, to raise money for a permanent night shelter for homeless people, a life skills development centre and purpose built accommodation for Kingston Churches Action on Homelessness.
Every Wednesday, the Church opens its doors to those in need, offering hot food and advice to around 50 guests. The trust also provide support; guiding those who struggle with loneliness, damaging addictions, unemployment and homelessness.
In March 2014 the trust opened an all-purpose night shelter, complete with 3 dorms, and 10 beds. In 2015, they are looking to expand this, and have exciting plans to have a Life Skills Development Centre in place by 2017.
Becky Mills, Community Fundraiser and Grants Officer, tells us: “Since the opening in March we have had a total of 36 new guests, with an average occupancy of 10. The average stay has been 8.9 weeks and housing solutions have been found for 17 of our guests.”
We wish The Joel Community Trust all the best for their expansion, and are delighted to be a part of it!
